Video Games Gran Turismo 5 / GT5 Prologue (PS3) Thread

i was expecting much more from this game...forza 3 might have less cars but they have more exciting cars..forza 4 is gona thrash this game in my opinion..maybe some more game time is needed..

Gamepad is no way to drive a car!

Logitech's G25 / G27 are propably the most popular wheels. What you get with them is three pedals, H-pattern stick/flaps, fierce force motors, 900 degree turn, well, the whole nine yards.

The biggest difference between the two wheels is G27's better force rotors, basically it's quieter which imo counts a lot. G27 also has more buttons on the wheel (2 opposed to 4). G25 has the advantage of having both H-pattern and sequential stick modes whereas G27 only has the H-pattern. Atleast G25's stick is kind of flimsy without modding. Over here G27 is half more than G25.

Logitech has a Gran Turismo wheel as well, Driving Force GT or something like that. It's under half the price of G25. I haven't heard anyone complaining but yeah, it's cheaper.

Fanatec's Porsche wheels are also very well regarded. They can be a bit more costly, depending what all "boxes" you tick(well, it's a kind of Porsche), and atleast in the past there's been some problems with reliability. I'd might hit one of 'em if I were looking for a wheel atm.

Thanks Zegerman for the recommendation. The GT3 RS wheels from Fanatec look fantastic, but pricey. Which reminds me, where do you guys place it? Do you guys have one of those racing seat set up to bolt everything to. I remember when I tried the wheel long back one of my gripes was I had try and hold it stable with my legs and the pedals would keep moving.

TIA

Honestly guys, I was really hyped by this game, after all these years of endless waiting, but the opinions I´m reading are not specially positive. I am member of the largest videogame forum of Spain, and people claim there´s a huge difference between the 200 cars that were created specifically for the game, and the other 800 which have been "translated" from the GT4 to HD for this game. People report framerate problems, and tearing too, and they complain about the lack of options to change the car for those 800 cars from GT4.

But, what has ennoyed me the most is that it seems like the game has two different levels of realism. There´s one game with 200 100% real looking cars, perfectly detailed from outside and inside, with amazing weather effects and damages, and another game with 800 cars which does look worse than the Forza 3.

PD: Any comments about the damages for both premium and standard cars?.

^^ I am a member of the NEOGAF forums and IGN forum (since 2001), and all I can say is that over the years I've learned to make my own opinion about the games I play. People talk a lot of BS! Particularly about games, as a lot of members of gaming forums are usually annoying teenagers...

Can any one suggest a good steering wheel and is it worth it. I always used the standard controller. I tried a steering wheel long back (original GT or GT2, can't remember) and hated it and returned it and never tried another one. I am guessing things have progressed since then? Anyway the game should be waiting for me at home. Can't wait to get home and play on my 120" screen :D

I have a Logitech G27. It's really great, and of high quality!

I ordered the Fanatec GT3RS wheels cause they looked better, lol.

But here is a nice comparison for anyone else that is interested. Wheel Shootout (Fanatec Porsche Turbo/GT3RS v2/Logitech G27/Momo Racing FFB) - GTP Forums.

Next, I need some kinda stand or the seats to bolt this thing to. The Fanatec one looks awesome, but too freaking expensive.

I've never seen it before but the construction is clever and make it easy to pull out and store away. I can see myself buying something like that when I invest in a PS3 with a wheel set-up in the first quarter of next year. It doesn't have a clutch pedal but I'm unsure whether it's necessary.

my friend gifted me GT5 since I wasn't planning on buying one, honestly, it is not upto forza3 in terms of physics and driving dynamics, on my first time trial I was drifting Ken block style all the track from day one ... sorry but it is stupid and no real driving simulation

The GT5 sentiments are split. Some are happy with it, other say FM3 is better while others are indifferent. It all depends on what your expectations were and perhaps how much time you're willing to give the game to win you over.

You seem to be crying out for physics and driving dynamics and for that I can whole heartedly recommend F1 2010. The game truly makes you feel like a racing driver and it's for those who seek to become better drivers as opposed to merely completing a game for the sake of it. In the beginning it's difficult, especially driving on a new track. I'm in Malaysia right now and have been working hard on making myself race-ready. There was quite some frustration when I first hit the track as my performance was crap but yesterday I managed to take the leap from 1.40min a lap time to my record of 1.39min which in will in the range for the top 5. I accomplished some of this by tweaking the setup i.e larger brakes, moving the ballast backwards for a 48/52 weight distribution as opposed to the default 80/20 for my Force India.

So later tonight I'll be racing on the circuit and realistically finishing 5th or I'm good, 3rd on the podium. What's greatly enjoyable is the journey you make from being 4-6 seconds off pace to then after 1-2 week be able to challenge for second grid position. And if you follow F1 on television it's even more fun as you learn quite a bit from the drivers themselves.

Denis Malevanyi is one skilled hot shoe and he can hustle a BMW M3 around the 'Ring with the best of them. He's also pretty good at driving virtual cars in simulation series like Race2Play, as well as in Gran Turismo 5. We've seen how a virtual driver's skill can translate when placed into reality, but Malevanyi already knows what he's doing behind the wheel. He recently captured video of himself running the Nürburgring in an E92 M3, both in reality and the digital world, and stacked the footage together.

Hey guys, I have to buy a MINI Cooper S for the game, due to an special race exclusive for MINIs. I can choose between the 2005 version or the 2007 one. The former has 170 hp and weights 1780 Kg. The latter has 175 hp and weights 1820 Kg.

What should I do?.

Getting ready to fire up Gran Turismo 5 this morning? Polyphony Digital would like you to wait a few moments, because there is a patch that needs to be downloaded... and it's 608 megabytes. Don't fret though, According to Eurogamer, this update brings a few new interesting features:

- Seasonal Events: Fresh racing events that allow GT5 users to compete against each other to win rewards and experience points. Leader boards will allow you to see where you stand compared to the rest of the world.

- Online Car Dealer: A new dealer lot that will focus on popular and rare used cars. This is a nice change of pace from the constant stream of odd JDM Civics and Suzuki 360s that seem to wind up in our Used Car lot.

- Online Race Rewards and Experience: Just like it sounds... this adds rewards and experience points for races won in online competitions.

- Mechanical Damage: It was made available for online races but has now made its way to the offline races as well.

- HUD: You can disable the HUD display for a full-screen view of the action.

- Improved Rewards: The rewards for certain challenges, such as the AMG Driving Experience, have been increased.

We are still learning more with regards to what exactly is included in this mega-update, but word on the virtual street is that this ought to be a solid early Christmas present for Gran Turismo 5 fans.
