There... I said it.

I fail to see their appeal and they are all RUBBISH (yes, they are and you damn well know that, but you are just way too repressed to admit it)*.

*Oh man... I will be roasted for saying this. But you don't have to agree with me OK? It's just my opinion and if you hate me for saying this, you can simply put my name in your ignore list and we can all live happily ever after.

What is classic for you?
And how are they rubbish?
Do you mean compared to cars of today?

I also used to hate them, but now i understand that the best of them acheived a level of artistic madness that will never be matched. :D

I somewhat agree with you. Many "classics" are just purely rubbish, have nothing going on for them. But there are some that are just pure art pieces.

Now, I should explain the reason why I came to this opinion.

Today I saw this 1989 BMW 520i.

White, manual, 112,800 miles, "very original" (apart from the E39 wheels of course...) great shape (not so sure about that, but anyway...) and three owners only.

For sale: £10,000.

That's right... ten bloody thousand quid for an underpowered old 5-series. And what was the owner's argument for asking such outrageously steep price?

"It's a classic car".

OK mate... just in case you stumbled across this thread, your car is NOT a classic and definitely doesn't ******* worth 10k, not even if it belonged to the Queen, OK?

And this is my problem, why people these days tend to overvalue the price of an old car using the "classic car" argument?

A Lotus Carlton is a classic car, an Audi Sport Quattro is a classic car, a BMW M1 definitely is a classic car.

But an underpowered, base model BMW 5-series with window winders and no AC? Nope. It isn't, it's actually RUBBISH, come to think of it, it was rubbish even in 1989.

What's more, there are people out there who believe that the engine in the Volvo was removed...

Is it really that difficult for people to accept that thanks to the technological advance, today's small Renault is safer in a crash than the big old Volvo estate?

Btw, I'm surprised he managed to purchase that Volvo for £695, because I saw one of those for sale for £5,000 the other day. Guess what's the owner's argument?

Yup... you've guessed it...

"It's a classic" he said.

Than you hate only old cars, not classic old cars!

I agree with you on that. The fact the car is 15-20 or even 30 years old sure doesn't automaticaly means it's a classic. Actually no one can define what a classic car really is.
But for me, classic car is a car with soul, that has something unique to it, it is made with that old passion for aesthetics, for example some Bugatti models from 1930s, Ferraris from 1960s, a lot of Maserati, Rolls Royce, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes models.

But I also honestly don't care for a 1989 520i, which by today's standards is cr*p. Will F10 5er for example, make car fans drool over in 30 years like the M1 does today? Sure not, and I think as the time goes by there will be less and less cars that are made with something truly special in mind, not caring about all the marketing, trunk space, safety regulations and emissions. Classic cars are a thing of the past and will probably stay so, except for the last generation Mercedes SL, 911 and few other exceptions. Today's car will mostly never be regarded as true classics, just boxes that used to take people from point A to point B.

I don't hate cars like the Lancia Stratos and the Mercedes 450 SLC, for example even though they are rubbish for today standards... but anyway, what I really hate the most are the "they don't make 'em like they used to", "oh they removed the engine of Bel Air" and the "the 520i E34 is a classic so I shall rip you off" brigade.

^Those are just suckers who cant afford new cars..haha:D
And sure as hell cant afford a REAL classic..cause they cost you like 20 new cars;)
