Do you think it was luck?

Supreme Roadmaster
I was driving today on the country road were the speedlimit is 90km/h. One car in front of me and we were both driving in legal speed. When the car in front of me suddenly brake very hard.

BOOM, Bang, crash...

He hit a car standing in the middle of the road and I saw his car lifting up in the air when he hit the other car in front of him.
I hit the brakes on my car too, hard as possible and I managed to steer between the two crashing cars on the road. I think my quick reflexes saved me from crashing into the other cars. I pulled over to the side and checking out my car. I drove over a lot of parts from the other cars but it seems my tires didnt get damaged. I looked back over the crashed cars and I saw a third car that had crashed with the other two. So three cars involved and thanks to my fast reactions me and my car survived the crash.

Police and firebrigade came very quick to the accident place. Thank God they are fast. Credits to the police and the fire brigade :eusa_clap

Wow. I had a smiliar story once and the worst thing I could've done was to tell the first person I saw at work which was a fanatical christien which in turn told me all these things about God and how he saved my life. Its not the god thing that bothered me but rather the fact that the guy didn't pay attention to my story.

Your story was rather interesting. What car do you have?
Was anyone hurt from what you could see?

I drive a japanese car but not worth discussing. All I can say is that ABS is a good invention.
I saw the driver of the car in front of me running out on the street. So he was okey, dont know about the rest.

Hey, its your baby of course it is worth discussing. I have a honda civic. Very good girl.

I you had been in the new S-class you would have been pretty safe but I'm glad you managed to steer away. Did you send any pictures to Aftonbladet?:D

Mike - I'm a Christian - but hey, that's not what I would have done.. :t-hands: Ah well. Caring for people is important.

Hey, Andreas, let us know what you drive! Reality makes no difference to the fact that you're a car enthusiast. Not everyone is rich.

Anyhow, so let me get this straight - the car in front of you crashed into another, third car, then lifted up and, I presume, to the side - then you drove in between the two cars as they were still in motion? Wow. :eek2: :t-hair:

Then, you stopped and checked, and a fourth car had crashed into the other two?

---

I suppose your reactions did prove right. If it's as split-second as you described above - 1) if it was me, I'd be shaking like a leaf afterwards, and 2) there are so many things to consider that it makes you think, eh.

It's not like you're superhuman, so don't try it again! :D But, does it make you think - if you were a little more tired, or something, then maybe you'd have crashed?

IMO, there is no such thing as luck. I believe in God, and that things happen for a reason. Nevertheless, I do still use the term, and would say this same thing to someone who was non-religious - luck is a word we use when the mechanics of probabilities and causes are outside our comprehension.

Whatever we have to say - I'm glad you're alive and well, JM. :t-cheers:

Nah man I completely understand. I am Christian as well. I just felt that the guy could've said wow, but he probably didn't even pay attention. He just knew that I was in trouble and that....whatever that doesn't matter.

I really think that what happened to me that day was a miracle.

its hard to explain, everything happen so fast, you have no time to think "what should I do?"

I drive behind a car and I suddenly notice the car in front of my starts to brake and BAM into another car. The car in front of me lifts up into the air when he smashes into the other car and when he land the car is rolling over to the right side. I see the car rolling next to mine when Im braking and I see him continue rolling into the grass and off the road.

I believe there was two cars that crashed before we came, unfortunaly the guy in front of me notice them to late and smashes into one of the cars. Those two others that crashed before us didnt use the blinkers, they just stood in the middle of the road.
So there were three crashed cars but I could have been the fourth car.

BTW it was a country road and if you turned to the left you get to a smaller road. So the crash happen on a "threeway crossroad".

You still haven't told us what you drive ;)

I think a "threeway crossroad" is normally what we call a "T-junction".

Maybe those other guys had just crashed and didn't have time to remember to put the indicators/hazard lights on, or get out those funky orange triangles. Or they just didn't do it.

I've had accidents happen around me, but normally in stop-start traffic, where people are too close, or didn't pay attention, or something like that. Even at such low speeds, the noise is eerie - the crunch. I can only imagine at 90km/h. Makes me think twice about driving so close to the people in front, especially in damp weather - our Civic doesn't have ABS..

Coming across a stationary object at 90km/h can be pretty sudden, especially on some country roads where the speed limit doesn't always reflect the ultimate visibility, but also in part the usual scarceness of cars.

Plus, if that's what happened at 90km/h, imagine at 70km/h in either direction - a closing speed of 140km/h. There are plenty of roads where it's 70km/h either way, and no median strip. Just think - 50cm across, and that's it. All it takes is one mistake, a moment of inattention, or one tired driver..

My life has been very boring so far. I have never seen a big accident and i have never been involved in one, but what is see in what Just me said definitely is driving experience and great driving skills.

I don't know what i would have done if i was in his place. If i was driving my old clio, i would probably be dead. It's not just luck. It's how you see things, if you panic and staff like that.

Anyway, i am glad you are ok, just me!

Wow scary, I'm glad you're OK Andreas :usa7uh:

I have seen only two car accidents happen in front of me.

The most dramatic one happened just outside my house. This happened in about 1990 when I was a teenager (yeah I know I am elderly :D ). I had just arrived at my house with my mother and sister when a gold colour Renault Fuego overtook a car in front of it, but the driver overtook on the wrong side and hit the curb of the footpath (sidewalk or pavement) and went up in the air (it seemed like 2 metres) and rolled sideways 180 degrees, landing on it's roof -- and just missing a large tree. A small bijon frise dog jumped out the window and ran down a neighbors driveway. The women who was driving the car was injured but not severely. It's really strange when you see something like that, your adrenalin makes everything seem to be in slow-motion.

BTW Andreas, whatever kind of car you drive will be better than me because I don't even have a car ....it's all taxis or public transport for Rob -- do you feel sad for me? ;)

Im not a pro or anything but I have had my license for 12 years and I driven fast cars so yes I would like to think that experience helps as well.
I also want to think that playing Quake for several years were fast reactions are important is one factor that I avoid the crash.

I read in the paper today that 5 people were hurt seriously :(

1) i hope these people recover soon
2) about your driving skills, 12 years of driving is much enough for you if you want to say you have experience. Also the fact that you have driven so many fast cars helps.
I drive for only 9 years and even though i have tested many cars, none of them had more than 250HP. And note the fact that most of the time i drive a 1990 78HP Renault Clio...
