"The Welsh borders, 12 Oct 2014

January 2012 seems a long, long time ago. Back then I was told by people who didn't know much that a web car video should be less than three minutes long and that overtseer was unpopular. I think we proved them wrong and am grateful to YouTube for giving me the chance to destroy tyres that other people pay for.
I'm also excited to announce that I've started working on my next phase of tyre obliteration and will be launching something new very soon. I'll remain a close friend of the /DRIVE brand and involved in its future productions, but will be offering even more access to my content through the next phase of Chris Harris on Cars, which will launch its new YouTube channel, free to air, November 12.
Special thanks go to Neil Carey, my sidekick in so many adventures and, if he can still handle the general mentalness, the man who will work with me on this next phase. Of course the biggest thanks go to all the viewers who have supported my little show. I look forward to welcoming you to the next phase very soon.
Best
Chris"

So, it appears Chris Harris is starting his own 'Chris Harris On Cars' YouTube channel from next month, and it will be free.

Great news.

Great news indeed. I watched couple of the full Drive episodes on NBC sports and was not impressed. The other 2 guys were a drag on the show and it felt too much like they were trying to mimic TG.

I wouldn't be surprised if Youtube has offered him funding just like Harry Metacalfe.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the Drive + subscriptions. Without CH, I reckon they're going to lose a ton.

Drive essentially killed the number of views his video's got by implementing Drive+ because they suck at marketing. Glad he now has the freedom to be who he wants to be and do what he wants to do. I'll be his first subscriber. :)

I tried watching Drive and it was not very good. Sometimes I really wonder how you can truly mess up a show about cars? Less talking and more driving. That's it. Chris has a good balance, but I think he can still do better. But the other guys on Drive were boring as hell to listen to.

Fantastic news, he is great entertainment and I think he understands the motoring enthusiasts like all of us here very well!!

Everyone in their right mind IF subscribed would have done so just to watch CH videos.
Drive is now officially dead! Who would rather pay NOT to watch CH than watch his videos for free!?!? :D

While he may have been loyal to the drive brand, Chris was the first one to advocate the paywall and say everyone should support it.

And now he's left after the drive brand has been tarnished and going to be putting out free videos.

Matt Farah (Smoking Tire) did say on another platform that his canyon videos he can put out for free since they're easy to put together etc and views have shown in his favour for that.

That aside another thing to consider is Leno wanted to meet Chris Harris but simultaneously Leno wanted to break the Euro market, so whether or not anything will come of that is something we will have to wait and see.

No doubt over the years Chris has been made a lot of appearances but he's risen as the star of the show on drive. I stand by my post made in the drive+ thread about it being the demise of the channel. Only a matter of time.

I agree that he is starting right out of the hole, guns blazing and since he knows that no matter who else makes a review of those two together, they can't do it like chris. Plus, it's also nice to see him getting back on the horse after the beating he took for Drive+, but it really didn't matter to me since I still paid him from watching it on tv.

Obviously, I'm looking forward to Harris' take on the 991 GT3 vs the 458 Speciale. Can't help but think that he will come to the same conclusion as Evo, Car, and Autocar magazines.......that the Speciale is the superior car in terms of objective performance and subjective driving experience. However, I do look forward to more head to head laptimes on a track...

You know what I think he should do. Do a Chris Harris style test but with the current crop of RWD affordable coupes. There are plenty of them, and no one has really done an "all out" test.
