Mercedes’ GL500 SUV isn’t necessarily the first vehicle that comes to mind to the average enthusiast when adding power and performance is the goal, but Carlsson has taken the challenge and come out with an impressive result.

At 435hp (320kW) and 442lb-ft (600Nm), the big SUV has the power to make the dash to 100km/h in just 6.1 seconds. Top speed is drag limited at 248km/h according to Carlsson. Getting that kind of performance out of the stock 388hp (285kW) V8 requires a special ‘engine kit’ that tunes the power up by over 12%. A special quad-tip exhaust adds an appropriate soundtrack to the new found power.

A full bodykit and 30mm lowering job gives the hefty GL500 a sporty scultped look. A C-Tronic suspension system guarantees the downforce on the car at speeds above 120km/h (75mph) doesn’t compress the ride height below the stock minimum, ensuring adequate suspension travel and therefore preserving predictable handling characteristics.

Custom 22in wheels with fat 305/35 tires are suitably large to match the big SUVs proportions, making it look in tune with its lower ride height and sporty body kit.
Inside, the CK50 is finished with whatever combination of fine nappa leather, Alcantara, carbon fiber and wood trim the buyer desires. Each CK50 is built to customer specification, and special attention is paid to the interior.
