Bugatti Teams Up with Hermes for Geneva Debut

Bugatti will be using the Geneva Auto Show to introduce what appears to be a new special edition for the Veyron. Teaming up with Parisian-based saddle maker, Hermès, the new Bugatti brings back to life the special relationship between Emile Hermès and Ettore Bugatti of the 1920’s. Using this information it seems likely that the new edition will feature a unique interior crafted by Hermès, while the exterior would be limited to minor cosmetic changes if any.

Recent reports have suggested that Bugatti is building a more exclusive high performance Veyron and a new Royal. Either could be the new model debuting in Geneva but that seems unlikely, so stay tuned for more details. Bugatti’s last special edition Veyron, the Pur Sang, sold out in days.

Bugatti and Hermès to create special edition Veyron

Bugatti will be showcasing yet another special edition Veyron supercar at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, this time joining forces with fashion label Hermès to create the unique vehicle. In a similar move to Lamborghini’s collaboration with Versace, Bugatti is set to revive a relationship between Emile Hermès and Ettore Bugatti that was initiated as far back as the 1920’s.

In the past we’ve seen Bugatti release its amazing Pur Sang Veyron (pictured), a limited edition model that featured an unpainted aluminum and carbon-fiber body, and before the Pur Sang there was the Pegaso Edition, which was claimed to feature a 1,200hp version of the 16.4 engine.
As for the upcoming Hermès model, we suspect it will feature a more over the top interior with tons of stitched leather and embossed logos. Previous special edition models sold out in just days and we expect this latest model to do the same.

Re: Bugatti and Hermès to create special edition Veyron

Mad power, is it useful as well :eusa_doh:...?

Re: Bugatti and Hermès to create special edition Veyron

I can't help thinking that this is slightly tacky. If I was to buy a Veyron, I would want it to be precisely to my own specifications -- why would I care about having it embossed with the name of a famous saddle maker?

Re: Bugatti and Hermès to create special edition Veyron

I actually think the Hermes partnership could work - they feel like two brands that could play in the same sandbox with a straight face. I think the Versace/Lambo partnership worked out well, and displayed both brand's strengths in a way that never crossed the line.

The way I see it - Sure, it doesn't get much more special than a Bugatti, but VAG has every reason to squeeze exciting press releases out of this car. They sunk a king's ransom into getting this thing to market, so why not get what press you can by making some interesting tweeks, editions and partnerships? I'm not a fan of brand collabs - which have been spreading like cancer in recent years -but if the names involved naturally compliment each other I won't object.

Some members claim Mercedes is leading the horsepower war. Its pretty clear that Bugatti own them :D

but this is not a run-of-the-mill luxury product, this is an Über-Premium product -- I really can't see how a collaboration with Hermès will make any difference to sales.

It really just goes to show how even at the highest levels of consumerism, there is no escaping the superficial marketing BS -- and this says a lot about who these types of products are really aimed at -- not people who have been surrounded with bespoke luxury all their lives I would think. This is very much aimed at the recently rich -- and there's nothing wrong with that, but it does usually end up being very predictable and unremarkable.

Re: Bugatti and Hermès to create special edition Veyron

Although I understand your point rob I don't think that Hermés is that tacky at it. As we know the Veyron is Uber exclusive but the fact that this will be a Veyron Hermés edition will make the happy owners sleep a little better. But in the end the whole point of these special editions is to give new people a chance to buy a Veyron because it's sold out big time. So many of the folks standing in line for one will certainly not mind this one, and I'm sure it will be a tasteful SE with very little logos visible. Since the waiting list is long Bugatti is doing this to strengthen and keep the brand name alive. Regardless of how much we know about the car the vast majority of people walking on the streets don't know that the Veyron is. Realistically speaking the people walking on the streets cannot afford one but still.

We told you about the Bugatti Hermès Veyron two weeks ago. At the time, it appeared the uber-special Veyron would just have an ultra high-end interior package. Now, with the first pre-Geneva peek of a Bugatti Hermès Veyron, we are learning the exterior may get some special touches, as well. Although the car in the picture is almost entirely hidden by a blue fabric car cover, two new vertical slats appear flanking each side of the grill, which obviously imply other elements of the Veyron's visage will also change. Are these the only exterior "upgrades" to the million-dollar-plus Bugatti Hermès Veyron? We'll let you know when we see it in Geneva next week. Until then, hit up the source below to see the car covered in full.

We can confirm that the Hermes Veyron does indeed exist, and, in fact, we are the first motoring journalists to see the car in the metal…and carbon fibre.

Teaming up with Hermes is a logical step for Bugatti, as the two companies have a long association. Hermes supplied leather for Ettore Bugatti’s cars early last century.
Although we’ve had a good look at it inside and out, we can’t reveal much detail about the car, as it is embargoed until the Geneva show. What we can tell you is that interior and exterior touches have been added to separate this from the everyday Veyron (not that there is such a thing…).
This, the only picture of the car, was taken today, however, we were told not to take the covers off for the camera. But trust us, it’s as special as it is exclusive.

Re: Bugatti Veyron Hermès Special Edition

Press Release

On the occasion of the 78th Geneva Motor Show (from 6 to 16 March 2008), Bugatti and Hermès co-present the fruit of their partnership: the “Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès”, associating Bugatti’s technical performance with the expertise of Hermès and its craftsmen. In partner-ship with Hermès, designer Gabriele Pezzini has married the distinctive Hermès style to the legendary Bugatti Veyron 16.4, magnifying the car’s personality.

This remarkable car features an array of excep¬tional characteristics: the innovative alliance of a technologically advanced engine, deliver¬ing 1001 horsepower, with an understated yet uncompromising silhouette reflecting the high performance capacities of state-of-the-art engineering and design, and above all, the pleasure these inspire in every Bugatti owner.

The fascination exerted by this sports coupé, capable of reaching 407 km/h, is due in large part to its unique alliance of the very finest motor-racing technology with comfortable handling for everyday driving. The 16-cylinder “W” configuration engine is fed by four turbochargers and features 64 valves, generating 1001 horse¬power at 6000 rpm. The engine draws on its 8-litre displacement to deliver a maximum torque of 1250 Newton-metres between 2200 and 5500 rpm. With full-time all-wheel drive, the car’s phenomenal power produces breath-takingly dynamic handling, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2.5 seconds. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 benefits from aero-nautical and aerospace technologies, making it the fastest production car ever made. The car also features a braking system designed to deliver unprecedented powers of deceleration, establish¬ing a new industry benchmark. The carbon-fibre discs provide brake pressure of up to 180 bars, combined with eight-piston monobloc callipers and titanium pistons fitted with fine steel heads and ceramic heat protectors. Apply the brakes at speeds above 200 km/h, and the rear wing acts as an airbrake, positioning itself at an angle of 113 degrees in less than 0.4 seconds, augmenting the Bugatti Veyron’s already impressive stopping power. The airbrake increases negative lift at the rear of the car to 300 kg, enhancing the braking torque on the rear axle. At 400 km/h, emergency braking will bring the sports car to a complete halt in less than 10 seconds.

This, the world’s most fascinating car, has pushed back the limits of physical engineering to offer a completely new sensation for driver and passenger alike. But it has also adopted a radically different stance to that of other sports cars: its features and finish are sure to impress the most demanding clientele. Hermès and designer Gabriele Pezzini have lavished attention on the interior and exterior of this exceptional car, to create the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4: the “Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès”

A harmonious design, inside and out

The official name of the highly exclusive Bugatti Veyron “Fbg par Hermès” refers to the historic Hermès headquarters on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, in the heart of Paris’s eighth arrondissement: the “Fbg” appellation evokes the house’s “faubourg” address.

With the Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès, the exacting standards of Émile Hermès and Ettore Bugatti come together for the first time, in a
exceptional collaboration: the culmination of their extreme attention to aesthetic and techno¬logical quality and performance.

Gabriele Pezzini has reinterpreted Bugatti’s tradi¬tional two-tone carriage work, fostering a fluid, harmonious transition between the car’s exterior and interior design. The colour of the hood extends to the interior of the cockpit, and re-emerges behind, at the level of the rear wing.

As a tribute to the celebrated 1924 Bugatti Type 35, undoubtedly the most famous of all time, thanks to its many successes on the racetrack, the new Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès features eight-spoked wheels in polished aluminium, central butterfly wheel locks branded with the letter H, and air vents around the rims repro¬ducing the characteristic appearance of Hermès saddle-stitching. The horseshoe radiator grille, and the lateral ventilation grilles flanking it, are made from lightweight alloys with a design of interlocking H’s evoking the Hermès “signature”.

A refined formal vocabulary
The inner surfaces of the Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès have been designed and sheathed in bull calfskin by the Hermès workshops in Paris. The care and attention to detail observe an extremely refined, minimalist formal vocabulary, reflecting the tradition of the very first Bugattis and the fundamental design principles of the house of Hermès. The door handles echo the fluid forms of handles on Hermès travel bags and luggage. And the dashboard, traditionally finished in brushed aluminium, is here clad entirely in bull calfskin. Passengers aboard the Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès will find a dashboard glove compartment designed to hold a selection of small travel accessories and a zipped Hermès wallet. Both seats are covered in two-toned bull calfskin, and the panel separating the cockpit from the central rear engine – traditionally made of carbon fibre – is covered in the same fine leather. The leather-lined trunk holds a specially-fitted “Toile H” and leather case, hand-made by craftsmen from the Hermès workshops.

This exceptional model – in toning colours of ebony and étoupe, or ebony and brick – is priced at 1.55 million euros (not including tax), available at the end of 2008.

Update: Bugatti adds more combinations for Veyron Fbg par Hermès
Updated: We all know Bugatti unveiled its new Veyron Grand Sport roadster at the recent Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, but the carmaker also used the event to introduce a range of a new options for its previous Fbg par Hermès special edition Veyron. First revealed at March’s Geneva Motor Show, the Hermès Veryon was originally limited to a two-tone ‘Ebony and Brick’ color scheme and was quickly derided as being one of the most dreary color combinations for the supercar.

Hermès and Bugatti have now developed four new colors schemes that draw inspiration from previous works delivered by the two companies. The color options include ‘Indigo Blue and Vermilion,’ ‘Indigo blue and Lime Green,’ ‘Black and Garance Red,’ and ‘Prussian Blue and Blue Jean.’ The new models are priced at €1.55 million without taxes (approximately $2.77 million) and are available at the end of the year.
Original: Following in the footsteps of its previous Pur Sang model, Bugatti has added another ‘special edition’ variant of the Veyron to its lineup and this time ‘round it’s called on French design house Hermes to lend a hand. The result is a supercar with super-exquisite fashion street-cred, but no new performance upgrades.

The latest model is called the ‘Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès’ and it represents the culmination of a partnership that stretches back almost 80 years. Its odd name ‘Fbg par Hermès’ refers to the historic Hermès headquarters on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré (the Fbg being short for faubourg), which used to create custom interiors for many of Ettore Bugatti’s creations during the 1920s.
Leading the work for the Fbg par Hermès was head designer Gabriele Pezzini, whose team has created a traditional two-tone carriage work that celebrates 1924 Bugatti Type 35. Key features are the unique color of the hood, which extends to the interior of the cockpit and re-emerges at the level of the rear wing, eight-spoke polished aluminum with central butterfly wheel locks branded with the letter H and air vents around the edges mimicking Hermès saddle-stitching, and a new grille and fuel-filler cap.
The inner surfaces of the car, including the brushed aluminum dash, have been fitted with calfskin leather, the door replaced with Hermès-luggage style units, and a new leather case is installed in the trunk.
The Veyron’s mechanicals have been left untouched, which means the 16.4 engine still produces 1,001hp and 1,250Nm of torque and carries the car to a top speed of 407km/h. The new model will go on sale towards the end of the year and will be priced from €1.55 million without taxes.
