BMW Confirms Four-Cylinder 3-Series For U.S.

i could be wrong but i've gotten the impression that all na engines are to be superceded by smaller, more efficient turbo-mills; wouldn't that spell extinction for that engine? 272hp sounds nice:usa7uh:,but it seems more probable to me that it would be coming from a relatively large 4cyl. given the overall trajectory of the engine program.

In this respect, I think the US will be way behind Europe, i.e. the I6 engines will still be used in the US market when they have been abandoned in Europe.

Then an American-Spec 3 Series for me, please. I am prejudiced against 4-pots, no matter how efficient or modern they are. 6-pots inline motor is a dot over "i" in the 3 Series, and I can hardly imagine the 3 Series lineup with only 4-pots (or even 3-pots) engines. :t-banghea

Let's see how the US market react on this move. I am sure that it will be clear that:
- enthiusiasts and power freaks will buy 6-pots
- those who want a BMW badge or economical modern car will opt for a 4-pot
