Starting with the X3 restyling, expected in a very short while, while the entirely new model will be coming only in 2010, it will be a bit bigger and will finally get "premium" class finishings.

The X5/E70 will debuting in Paris this autumn and it will be available at the begininning of 2007. The new version of BMW's first SUV must live up to the high expectations created by its predecessor and by the evolution of the market. There will be no aesthetic experimentation, either on the inside or the outside. The new X5 will be produced in Spartanburg (NC, USA) and its main focus will be on the american market, and it will have 7 seats like its main rivals, the Audi Q7 and the Mercedes GL. The new X5 will also get a new xDrive system that will be capable of a more flexible torque split between the front and rear axle and the left and right wheels.

BMW have 2 design proposals for X6: one very close to this Huckfeldt's impression (more SUVish), and another one (more Coupe-ish).

The BMW board of management have chosen the more Coupe-ish variant.

So this X6 by Huckfeldt is not the chosen one. The chosen one is more similar to the red CGI from Auto-motor-und-sport.

X3 is spot on.

X5 - front is spot on, but side & rear more chunky - not so rounded like Huckfeldt has portraited it. Rear & side are more like the AZ CGI:

As I've told you: the front will be different - different grill (not so huge) and different headlights (and fascia around headlights). Also fog lights will be more production like.

So, no need to panic. :usa7uh:

The overall stance of the car will resemble (and even enhance) the shape of the current X5: very powerful, very bullish. In a very fresh and appealing skin.

When E70 X5 arrives Audi Q7 will look like soccer mum's fancy grocery SUV. While X5 will be daddy's new toy. :D

i am really starting to like the x5 but god i hope the front will look nothing like the blue one but the rear is very nice and one of the best on a suv:bowdown:

Thanks for the post Yannis...and thanks for the update Enilab.

As for all those PS' ... i gotta say the Le Mans Blue X5 PS is just awesome. The front is a little bit off with the big kidney grille...but other than that, the front is awesome. The same can be said for the rear...although I really wouldn't mind if the rear was like the red PS at the top of the page.

As for the X3 facelift. I don't really mind the current X3...but that facelift PS is real nice. Aggressive, but not over the top..and not too much plastic upfront.

Now to that light blue PS there. Im guessing that's supposed to be the X6 ? .. well... i'm not a fan for the upside-down kidney's ...but the overall stance of the car/suv is pretty nice...and the 3er inspired rear design is something I can't complain about.

I sure hope the new X5 can live up to the success of the current X5...and i'm guessing it'll have no problem with that.

Hahahaha... that's a good one EniLab... :t-rot: ... but I already think the Q7 is a soccer mum's car. Heck, when I saw it at the Motorshow, a lady and her kids were checking it out, while her husband walked over to the S4.

To me the Q7 is too feminine ...the GL-class is too conservative and unimaginative coz it's just a bigger ML..... while the current X5 is damn aggressive and as Enilab said 'bullish'..and from those PS's, looks like it's only going to get better.

As I said: this X6 on Huckfeldt's CGI was the non-chosen one. The chosen one is totally different. More Coupe-ish, less SUV-ish.

Upside-down kidneys. Khm. The famous Scott once said:

The next generation of the twin kidney grille will be like a twin shell with an outer - reverse shape with the inner slats as normal.

My interpretation of this claim is new generation kidneys will look like the ones on the X6 proposal. :eusa_danc

So you say it will be more coupe-ish and resemble that dark red X6 PS we've seen (the PS which was made from an M6 picture). I'm wondering, just how close is that PS to what the actual X6 may look like, because that PS is very radical, daring and even a bit over-the-top in my opinion. So im just wondering, that X6 PS you're referring to and saying it's close to that.. do you just mean the overall shape and stance of the X6, or do you even mean the details like the shape of the lights and character lines and so on ?

:t-cheers:

I was talking about these CGIs:

IMO this is very close to the final design. Why?

These CGIs were published on 9/9/2005 - only few days before BMW presented a bunch of future models to senior management. Among those products there were two different X6 design proposals. One more SUV-ish, other more Coupe-ish. Later the coupe-ish variant was chosen.

Let's get back to the CGIs: the interesting issue here is that history shows these CGIs just exceed AMS abilities of making CGIs. They could never created so original, so detailed, so daring CGI. So my theory (and not only my) is that AMS got some sketches or photos from preparation center (where models for presentation were at work) of the winning design proposal - and then they made those CGIs. To look less exposed they based them on M6.

Just to show you how lame are typical AMS CGIs, and how special these red M6 based are:
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/fotoshows/bmw_x_sport.102115.htm

Also the these red CGIs are very close to the final design Scott has described - and I got similar description from another source.

So, expect something more "VW Concept A-ish".

Yeh, that's the PS i was talking about as well. What im worried about is how radical that PS looks. Both the front and rear aren't cohesive at all...and don't really match with BMW's design philosophy because this is just over the top...whereas the current line up have that flame surfacing style, but aren't as 'out there' as this PS.

I hope that the actual X6 won't be as drastic... but it is still only a PS, and still a while till the X6 comes out...so I'm not going to worry too much as yet.

Mind that this is a CGI. Based on a sketch I guess. Some details are skewed.

But expect X6 (or whatever it will be named) to be radical in shape.
