While cars like the ultra-expensive (and new) Pagani Huayra have only just gotten active aerodynamics, to both improve handling and stopping power, Russian engineers seem to have cracked it long ago. Take this Lada driver who is just driving along, minding his own business, when his bonnet decides that he needs to make an emergency stop.
It genuinely seems to work, as we have never really seen a Lada stop so quickly and effortlessly. Sadly, once this rudimentary air brake is deployed, visibility is rather limited, and the driver is advised to open the window and stick his head out, in order not to cause any serious damage to his car, other cars or people.

However, aside from the slight issue of visibility, it seems that the engineers over at AutoVAZ have successfully implemented a working air-brake into a cheap production hatchback. They are not alone, though, as the East German Trabant was also known for a similar ‘system’.
