Thanks for the pics,
I think those tail-lights are more beautiful that the ones BMW used for the final product .
They look more sporty and agressive and give the car a stronger personality .
Pitty BMW didn't choose them for production .

Someone probably got mad in the board room and demanded the tailights be reshaped, yet another reason to wait for the facelift.

We already knew that, but thanks for the interesting pics! I always love those 'making of' pics!

Those initial rear tail-lights look mighty similar to the facelifted 9-5's tail-lights.

But nevertheless, I prefer the original rear lights.

Thanks for those really great photos - it must be so exciting for a designer to see his [or her] ideas finally come to life as a full-scale model.

It also seems vaguely ironic to me that people still talk of "European design" when these quintessentially European vehicles are designed by a very talented Japanese designer. Also those original rear lights look a bit like the Audi ones - I like the final lights they opted for.

The guy who designed the E46 is Marej djoverik i think, and initial shape of backlights was changed because it was too close too new ausi design.

it looks like a Coupe to me

Yeah, it does in those pics. Must be because they still have to cut the doors in the clay :usa7uh:

I heard that too. They supposedly changed the lights because of the Audi A4 facelift. I don't really care since I like them both.
We had some pics of the different taillights on the late GCF forum too.

I think the ones in clay look like oversized Z4 tail-lights. I hope the lights on the coupe end up looking similar to this! Very sporty.

No, Marek Djordjevic designed the Phantom and upcoming convertible. Those were the only two products he did before he was moved up the latter to head of RR's design team. As of 9/26/05 he has left RR to start his very own design firm. The man who designed the E46 3er is an American, Chris something.... can't remember his last name for the life of me... I think it's Chris Chapman?... His first name is Chris for sure...
