GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) 2026 AMG GT 4-Door Vision EV

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) is the first generation five-door variant of the AMG GT two-door sports car. Production: September 2018– Model years: 2019–
Let's be real.... Most supercars this days are pretty tame

Sound is almost gone in every new supercar released due to regulations

Most supercars have some sort of electric drivetrain

What does it remain? Feeling of a gear shift ? Some engine noise ?

I mean , I don't know how many of you heard the 992.2 Turbo....It's sound like absolute garbage....

EVs are fun, IMO. Instant power. Lot's of torque. Low center of gravity
Mild-Hybrids are better. They eliminate turbo lag whilst giving ICE power, sound & they’re much lighter cars.

(i.e 992.2 911 GTS)

EVs in general are not exciting or involving, even the sporty ones.
I do believe, however, when the reviews come out, this GT will check lots of boxes on emotional engagement with journalists and independent reviewers alike. The sound quality and character seem to be visceral. AMG knows what it customers want and this GT is not going to cut them short on the "feeling emotion factors" in the engineering department. It will be just as good as the previous model and better in some cases.
The sheer performance, speed, and driver involvement should be blistering.

With a powerful EV, the power is delivered so smoothly.

Almost "inconspicuously"...and most certainly with a very high degree of refinement. Such were my perceptions a few years ago when I was offered some behind-the-wheel time in a J1.1 Audi RS etron GT. A granite fist in a velvet glove. Arguably a "Gentleman's Choice" rather than a hoonigans.

That’s why you put a different exhaust on it.

Yes I heard the new turbo S but the GTS Hybrid is even worse imho.

When something in life be comes to easy, it often becomes less gratifying.

EVs are like playing a video game and unlocking a car that rate at 10/10 for handling, acceleration and top speed.

There is no rev range, turbo lag, weight transfer or red characteristics to manage.

I don't think artificial V8 noise can fix this. The noise might be fun for a few week but then get annoying because you know its fake.

Maybe AMG should make a RWD version. I have read that the Macan EV is more engaging and steers nicer as a RWD than AWD.

Discerning configuration and the thorough exploration of what Manufaktur can offer can make all the difference in the world. IMHO, the presentation vehicles couldn't have been more unfortunate. Hence presenting a vehicle that was initially bombarded with lament, ridicule and mockery. However, one can soon recognize, after making an effort, that there are myriad possibilities that can make this car a far more eye-pleasing, elegant proposition.

This is exactly my opinion. (y)

It’s one if not the main reason why I haven’t bought another fast EV.

Sometimes less power is indeed more fun.

Ain't that the truth...

Lingering fond memories of Alfa-Romeo 105s, MG Midgets/Austin-Healey Sprites, Triumph TRs and Steyr-Puch 650TRs...

Were I confronted with having to make a decision regarding a modern vehicle, I'd almost certainly be taking the BEV route. My particular region's infrastructure supports it. But with some hypothetical spare change, I'd be searching for one of those now elusive classics mentioned above. There remains a good bit of petrol-head in me after all.

A good analogy is musical instruments. There are digital keyboard, drum machines and digital devices that can replicate any digital instrument.

Yet people still learn how to play and master analogue instruments. And hundreds of millions of spectators spend billions of dollars every years to watch artists play instruments live.

Excellent analogy.

Or they travel to Vienna, New York or Hamburg to visit the big classic concerts.

I'm an advocate of this mindset, however, nobody is complaining about the output of any combustion engine models around here being too high - had the AMG come with a Jesko rivaling V8 I'm sure there wouldn't be anybody suggesting that less would be more.

Thanks to downsizing you must buy a 400hp car if you want a straight 6 or a 500hp car if you want a V8, even if 300hp are more than enough.

This is a problem of todays cars.
