I think the A3 sedan also looks great at least that doesn't have long front overhang

It think the render ist pretty close, but if the upcoming A8 D5 looks like this it is still to "normal" for me.

I partly agree with that. The car looks too normal in the sense of missing its own character/A8 character which the D2 and D3 did have. Plus it bothers me that they removed these lines:

            autowp_ru_audi_a8_4_2_quattro_17.

This gave the car some originality and an A8 charateristic imo.

^ Those lines were ok on the D3, but looked very poor on the D4.

But then again, the whole D3 looks better than the D4.

              The D3 is timeless.

And to be more specific: the one without the single frame grille

But the proportions are not nice, sadly. The wheels should have been much further apart.

That provided no new information and an outdated rendering. :)

2019 Audi S8 heats up a cold Arctic day in new spy shots
The super sedan is expected to receive Porsche Panamera Turbo power.

Pretty much a supercar disguised as a fullsize luxury sedan, the next-generation Audi S8 was spotted for the first time towards the end of September 2016 while stretching out near the Nürburgring. Fast forward to present day, another heavily camouflaged prototype has been caught by the spy camera in an entirely different environment while conducting cold-weather testing in northern Europe.

The obvious sign we’re looking at the performance version is at the back where the car was not shy to show off its provisional exhaust system with four tips. Other than that, the test vehicle appears to be a fairly standard 2018 A8 hiding its evolutionary design underneath the swirly camo, which will finally come off in time for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. However, we will have to wait some time for the hotter derivative since the S8 won’t be introduced from day one as the peeps from Ingolstadt will want to wait at least several months before spicing up the range.

It’s too soon to say what will power the S8, but our money is on Porsche’s newly developed biturbo 4.0-liter V8 available in the latest Panamera Turbo where it churns a meaty 550 horsepower (404 kilowatts) and 567 pound-feet (770 Newton-meters) of torque. It’s highly unlikely the standard S8 will have more oomph than the model with the Porsche crest, but a potential “Plus” version due to come out later in the model’s life cycle will definitely up the power ante. After all, the outgoing S8 Plus already has a monstrous 605 hp (445 kW).

Even though Audi has plans for an expanded RS portfolio, for the time being an RS8 does not seem to be on the agenda. As a consequence, chances are the S8 Plus will once again serve as the hottest version, unless you consider the W12-powered model as the range topper. Speaking of which, the twelve-cylinder A8 will use a newly developed biturbo 6.0-liter that made its debut in the 608-hp Bentley Bentayga.

Oh, I hope not... I really love my D4.
D5 might be my next car if they make it right. I'm sure that technology and attention to details will be great.

                        Terrible looking shots.

The car features undeniable FWB proportions that are a shame for a car of this category. The profile looks much worse than a 7er or a S-Class. It also seems to have a very timid shoulder line right below the glasshouse, and a second one, even more hidden, that runs across the door handles. The result, based on these spy pics, is a side profile that looks even blander than the one of the current D4 A8, wich is not particularly nice to begin with.

We then have the rear end, which has been toned down enough compared to the Prologue one to make it look boring as well. The rearlights shape looks a lot like the current Passat ones. Same can be said about the front end. It has lost the stylish look of the concept and now it looks like the other, current Audis, with weird lines on the air intakes and a huge, Superman grille, with larger lights than the FL D4.

This has basically undone all the FL D4 did right, which was a lot compared to the turd that was the pre-FL D4. The interior better be the best thing human kind has invented or the only real rival for the S-Class this time around will be the G11 7 Series.

That doesn't look exciting or promising at all, rather bland... But we'll see...

                          ...so far, so...utterly disappointing.

Perhaps the photographs are simply distorting the cars' true proportions.

This is going to be the worst looking A8 yet.
Very, very impressive. Audi going backwards.

Just a little big for a Passat, but yeah, wholly agreed.
