2013 SRT Viper Teaser Released

The 2013 SRT Viper (formerly the 2013 Dodge Viper) is one of the most anticipated cars of the year, if not the decade. Today, as promised, the first tantalizing teaser image has been released on SRT’s official Facebook page, revealing just a little of its front-end.

Not much is known about the car except that it will feature a newly designed V-10 engine and will no longer carry the “Dodge” name in its title, hence the new 2013 SRT Viper moniker.

The car will be making its official world debut this April at the 2012 New York Auto Show before landing in showrooms near the end of the year. However, unless you’re a loyal and dedicated long-term member of the Viper Club of America, you won’t be eligible for the first batch of cars produced.

And you could be in for a long wait to get your hands on this new generation of American muscle. SRT is expecting first-year demand to far outstrip its ability to build a few thousand Vipers. Even 1994’s production quantity of 3,083 units (a record for the Viper) may not satisfy pent-up demand for the new 2013 model.

I wonder what dodge think ..do they really feel they created such an epic and iconic design on the Viper..that it needs nothing else than touch ups from time to time..like the G class.??

Personally im pretty sick of the general idea of how a viper is supposed to look. .a radical change would be welcomed.

It probably will be. The Viper is America's 911. To date, every single generation has looked spectacular. Even by today's standard the 1994 Viper is a head turner. In blue with white stripes its a collectors' item.

Totally agreed, a timeless Classic in its own way (like a 911), i.e an unconventional way that would look terrible if anyone tried to mimic it.

Viper is America's purest exotic I think, Corvette doesn't come close regarding that nature.

I don't really agree, because the Corvette has way more history. I think on the contrary the Corvetter is atimeless classic like the 911. It started in 1953 and is now at its sixth generation. The seventh is on its way. The Viper is more like an "American Lamborghini".

They did own Lamborghini at the time they started developing the Viper in 1989. They took their truck V10 engine that weighed some 900 pounds and then sent it to Lamborghini to lighten it up. Still Lamborghini in Modena could only shed 300 lbs and the final production engine weighed 600 lbs.

I hope it's not a radical departure. Even though they only had two generations of the Viper, its style very much entrenched in its M.O. The first-gen was ostentatious and the second-gen was more mature but still eye-catching and distinctive, especially in GTS guise. In the end, the car needs to be instantly recognizable as a Viper.

I still can't get my head around the idea of an 8.7L V10, especially in this day in age. This will be a bruiser.
