Not to mention, the new SL will be more expensive than the 6er. And it's a roadster, meaning even less practical.

Unless you're legless, you can't sit in the back seat of a 6-Series either for more than a few miles before some serious discomfort sets in.

Needless to say they aren't direct competitors, but I think what K/A is getting is as that for the first time the 6 is priced really close to SL territory. At this price level, buyers will cross shop the 2 cars, but not necessarily compare them feature for feature, IMO. All expensive cars are cross shopped by buyers everyday, just because they aren't in the same class doesn't mean people can't and don't compare them.

The 6 and CLS aren't really competitors either other than their market position, i.e. above the 5/E Class, other than that one is a coupe/convertible and the other is a sedan. Yet they are still compared, as I've done myself, but not on a which is more practical basis. These are vanity/feel good/how they look/drive purchases at this level.

I have an 09 650i coupe in the Garage. I'm 5'8 and sitting in the back is not easy and uncomfortable. Head room sucks back there. The rear of a vert would be impossible.

That last shot is very very awesome, but I guess we knew already that the rear is gonna be extremely hot to everyone. The tech will be also awesome, this car will be gorgeous. The 6er is not a direct rival for it, but a customer would might think at this 2 cars when he wants to buy a car. But I think it will be very easy to choose after the launch of this pearl from Mercedes-Benz.

The 6er is a big 4 seater, and a GT.
The SL is a Roadster, with two seats. Competely different cars, but keep living your dream, I'm not even going to bother...

Braaf, K-A was having is fanboy moment, never mind his ignorance.

.... But you did bother. ;)

You should be barred from ever using the term "fanboy" as a negative connotation toward someone.

"Every time a BMW gets dissed, a Klier is apparently slapped in the face". :D

As useless as the rear seats are for adults, it is still useful. Someone with young kids or even thinking of starting a family would still consider a 2+2, but a strict 2 seater is useless. Why 911 is still a 2+2, cause Porsche knows a lot of 35-45 year old guys starting a family would need the rear seats. Or you need the rear seats cause you have a dog - as in my case.

Exactly.

Firstly, I was speaking in response to the Member bringing up the 6-Series before me. Also, the 6 is essentially closer to the SL than it is the CLS, because the rear seats of the 6-Series practically don't exist. Very short trips with very small children would be the only logical necessity for them, or maybe throwing some small stuff back there, but otherwise, most buyers won't ever use them, I'd assume.

People WILL cross shop the two cars, and BMW justifying pricing a 6-Series close to an SL is like them justifying pricing a 5-Series (including 5 GT) close to an S-Class in my view. The car hasn't marinated at those price levels to justify it just yet. We'll see soon enough as BMW give massive discounts (already happening) to move them. It's just ridiculous in my view. Even more-so due to me thinking the 6-Series would be a best-buy at more rationale, yet still obviously expensive - but not so expensive, levels.

.... Or, another example, is M-B pricing a CLS at 7-Series levels. Sure, it can technically justify it, but it isn't "there" in the materialistic sense, which is the leading factor as to why many of todays cars are more expensive then their cheaper siblings; considering they share drivetrains, styling, interiors, etc. for the most part.

Ahh c´mon K-A man, klier is a key part of this forum, as The Artist or EnI are. Fanboys, or people who inconditionally love a brand are nice to read much of the time IMO. I enjoy klier posts as I´m sure more poeple do. And so do I with other fanboys posts.

And, concluding my defense of the GCF fanboys, most of them critisize their brand sometimes. klier does it with the 6er, you K-A, a MB fan, do with the profile lines of the recent MBs, and Tumbo does hate the new A8.

I like people here ;)

This pic shows the passenger side of the dash uncovered, so we can see how elegant and tasteful the interior seems to be. There´s trim sorrounding the radio and AC controls, around the shifter, and across the dash and the doors. Not a big and fat trim, but a thin and precise one.

The LED graphics of those rear lights will be a sight to behold in the dark:)

Look how many likes has this thread. Think also at the number of pages. Mercedes is really awesome. The interior will be so special at SL. Only 15 days reamining till we will it official !

Doesn't look uncovered to me. The only bit which is uncovered is the air vent.

Klier, don`t be bad with me I could hit "like" button so many times in this thread, because I liked what others have to say. If I go back at many pages I can hit the"like" button but not because I want to achieve great numbers of likes at this thread, this will be because I really find useful, and I like comments. Now back to the official date. Somebody said earlier in this thread that 15 December is the official day of the revealing. Read about 10 pages back or something like this, and you`ll find that information.
