Leipzig June 16, 2006...This afternoon, the 100,000th 3 Series rolled off of the assembly line at BMW's Leipzig, which started series production on March 1, 2005. The Titan Silver 330i is bound for a customer in Saxony-Anhalt. This is a major milestone for BMW Werkes Leipzig.

At present, the Leipzig BMW factory produces about 570 vehicles daily. Building of bodies, paint shop and assembly work in two shifts. For this so far more than 4,100 new jobs in the work area were created, more than 2300 directly with BMW, the others with suppliers as well as services and service partners. In the year 2007 the daily output is to rise to 650 vehicles daily.

Vehicles from Leipzig production have so far been delivered to customers in four continents (Europe, Asia, Africa, South and Central America), about a quarter of them within Germany.

"This demonstrates the BMW Group and Germany still have the conditions for success in international competition", sais work leader Peter Claussen on the occasion of the production anniversary. It stressed that "the large readiness to perform and motivation, as well as the high qualification of the female employees and co-workers" were key factors for the positive development.

In 2001 the BMW Group decided to establish the new manufacturing plant in Leipzig after consideration from over 250 offers from locations all ove rEurope. The initial investment amounted to about 1.3 billion euro. Result: One of the most modern and most flexible automobile plants of the world.

The BMW Leipzig Werekes covers the entire manufacturing extent, from welding the steel bodies to the lacquer finish, the corrosion protection and the cavity sealing up to the assembly of the entire interior equipment and the final assembly as well as the final functional test and quality control.

Yeah right...

Easy on that Bimmer kool-aid. ;)

Man this has got to be the dullest looking car in the world. It's looks so monumentally old and tired, that makes a Honda Accord (Acura TSX in North-America) looks fresh and exciting.

The E90 is just so bland compared to the E46. Where Bangle's 7-Series E65, Z4 and 5-series E60 have a certain drama and novelty value, his 3 series just looks anonymous. The E90 definitely won't age well as the E46 did.

In the UK, the 3-Series is about as exclusive as a Ford Mondeo. To make matters worse, the 3-Series ranked as the third most stolen car in the UK.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but E90 is one of the most popular cars in the car business and get a lot of positive reviews in car reviews and from owners. You simply cant deny its one of the best and most popular cars outthere. There are always a some people who dont like the design of E90 but there are obviosly also people that dont like the C-class (me for example :D ) , there we can talk about dull car. The sales for E90 is better than A4 and C-class, its BMW's bread and butter. E90 deserve to be a good selling car.

In not a single moment I said the E90 is a bad car.

I just don't like the look of it.

BTW: I'm not fond of the current C-Class either.

I agree with you that the 3er may not be the most exciting car in the world, but it does look good, and aggressive with the M pack on!

Also it sells, and that's what matters!

I agree with that wholeheartedly. The Lexus IS certainly looks better in my books.

The E90 looks tired by comparison.

In a way, that's quite true. The Passat is boring. But it is a functional sedan, with no sporting intentions. I think it is marketed more so as a practical family saloon than a sports sedan. The E90 is a thoroughtbred sports sedan, and I don't think it looks distinctive enough. By that I'm referring relatively to the Lexus IS.

For me the Passat looks ok and so is the 3 series. I would rate them both at 7/10. C class and A4 are not better than that either. Lets hope that Audi and Mercedes will give us better designs in the next generation.

The IS looks seriously dated sitting next to either an A4 or 3er, even the C-class looks better asnd it's six years old!!!

I know the B8 A4 is going to be a real looker both inside and out and have very much improved performance over any other A4 before it. Don't know that it will outhandle the 3er, should be a good throw down.

Oh well, I still aplaud BMW for making another successful 3 series. Imo, the only car that comes close is the A4, although I still think the Lexus looks great too. Long live the king...

The 2.0 TFSI Passat is far from boring and it costs less than a 2.0 lt ,130 hp, 318i here in Greece which is very slow and underpowered.:D

The Passat is a good car for someone who doesn't have enough money to buy a 3 series or A4 , or needs a family car with big spaces.

PS. If or when i buy a Passat you will be the first to know but that day hasn't come yet.:D
