Good colour choice. I've yet to see the X6 in metal but have been invited to a press event here in London on monday next week. So I'll give a look there and will hopefully be able to take it for a ride.

The X6 looks definitely great in red!! One of the best colours for this car!! And I'm starting to like the design of this car.

I thought the Murano's rear was radical when it came out, this has done what the Murano did for me about 5 years ago.

While I still won't say if I hate it or like it, that's a beautiful red!

This is BMW's best looking vehicle in years. Right up there with the 3/M3 Coupe/Convertible.

Re: Member Steve and his X6

Thanks everyone, I am really pleased I chose Vermilion Red, it looks strong and confident without looking aggressive.

I have sent it away for a few days to cover the front in Ventureshield, so will produce a report on that next week.

Having owned 5 X5s previously (3.0i Sport, 4.6is, and three 4.8is) and then my most recent ML63, I am pleased to report that this X6 is my favourite SUV yet, even though it is only in 35d spec.

I have tested out a tuning box which seems to improve the fuel economy, and I am now averaging between 27-31mpg on journeys, whilst still at a low mileage. It's very balanced and so relaxing on a journey, far more composed than an X5 or either of my other SUVs. I can cover some roads as quickly as I used to in my B7 RS4, which shows how effective DPC can be.

Rather than needing to lift-off when it begins to understeer, you can actually apply more throttle and it causes the line the tighten and begin to induce some mild oversteer. Great fun, and amazing for an SUV.

Downsides thus far as few, BMW fit these low-resistance run-flat tyres and they loose grip suddenly and without much progression. Brakes are actually 'very' good, becoming much stronger after I had bedded in the pads.

Even the diesel engine is growing on me after I agonised about whether to stray from my beloved V8s.

Reaction from other road users and pedestrians has been surprisingly good. People stop and chat and ask what it is, and I've had people stopping on the road just to point and take pictures. It's far more popular than some journalists would like to acknowledge and far from the oddity.

In fact having owned most of BMW's icons over the past decade I feel that the X6 is the best looking and most cohesive BMW design since the E46 (I still have my M3 CSL), so I'm as pleased as punch and glad to be one of the first owners.

Absolutely awesome DoctorD

The first X6 I saw was in Vermilion Red too, and I was pleasantly surprized with it's color in real life. It looks awesome in that red...spectacular even on that huge X6.

I am not expecting one for quite a while. BMW have forecasted modest sales for the X6 until customer feedback confirms the appetite for a more powerful one. Bear in mind that the X50i will be easily tuned to achieve more than 500bhp (although I do wonder about the cooling issues of those V-mounted turbochargers).

Next version in 2009 will be the Hybrid, so any M-model would surely be 2010 at the earliest.

So far though, the X6 has been a positive sales success. BMW have sold all 2008 year production, and there are now waiting lists. X5 owners seem to be switching more than 6-series owners, and I suspect there will be quite a few brand conquests.

BMW X6 sales off and running

By Jenny Munro • BUSINESS WRITER • June 7, 2008
BMW's X6 sports activity coupe is off to a strong start -- with 2,652 sold since its launch this year in the United States and Europe and its future production for the year already on order, according to the company.

The German automaker increased its May sales of BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands worldwide by 3.9 percent, to 133,496 vehicles from 128,434. That's also slightly more than the company delivered in April -- 133,205, up from 118,378 the previous year.
Year-to-date BMW sales were up 6.7 percent to 618,731 units -- the first time BMW has ever delivered that many vehicles by the end of May. Last year, year-to-date sales at the end of May totaled 579,745.
Driven by the BMW 1 Series, the X5 sports activity vehicle and the 5 Series touring models, BMW brand vehicle sales rose 2 percent to 110,704 vehicles in May from 108,515 the year before.
The automaker outpaced Audi and Daimler, its premium-car rivals, for the month.
Audi reported a sales increase of 0.8 percent to 88,200 vehicles delivered during May. The company said that the changeover of its best-selling A-4 model depressed demand.
The company is "expecting strong year-on-year growth in the second half," said Rupert Stadler, Audi chief executive officer.
Also, Daimler reported it sold 111,100 Mercedes-Benz, Smart and Maybach brand vehicles in May, down 4 percent from the same month in 2007. The company reported it delivered 98,100 Mercedes-Benz brand vehicles in May.
Year-to-date sales for its three brands were 500,500, an increase of 10 percent.
Two of the vehicles leading BMW's sales -- the X5 and the X6 -- are built in BMW Manufacturing Co.'s plant near Greer, as is the Z4 roadster and its variants. The plant is in the midst of a $750 million, three-year expansion that is anticipated to increase capacity to 240,000 vehicles a year by 2012. In 2010, production of the X3, the smaller sibling of the X5, will move to the Upstate, and production of the Z4 will move to Germany.
"Our order books for the X6 are already full for the rest of 2008," said Ian Robertson, member of BMW's Board of Management responsible for sales and marketing. "With the X6, we are once again creating a whole new vehicle segment -- that of the sports activity coupe. This new kind of vehicle combines the versatility of an SAV with the dynamic driving performance of a sports coupe."
Its Mini division also drove sales for Munich-based BMW Group. Sales of Minis grew 14.2 percent in May to 22,682 units. Rolls-Royce delivered 110 models of the Phantom family in May, an increase of 96.4 percent from 56 in the same month a year ago.
Despite a continuing weakness in the U.S. economy and high gas prices, BMW's U.S. market grew by 3.1 percent to 31,781 vehicles in May. Sales in Europe as a whole grew by 4.4 percent, with the growth in Eastern Europe's emerging markets increasing by 21.3 percent.
Sales in the Asian region rose by 6.9 percent to 13,210 vehicles from 12,354 the year before in May. China, Asia's largest market, grew 15.9 percent to reach a total of 5,625 vehicles, up from 4,855.

Nice one Steve, I will order the P-Tronic box nearer the delivery time (september) of mine so we can compare the two.
Does the Spider give the car a more powered feel?, and the increased MPG should improve more with miles I think, best regards John, don't forget a couple of pics of your brothers car when you can mate.
Which company are fitting the "Venture shield" for you?.

The Spider box removes some of the slack in the throttle action, making it easier to just breath on the throttle and make swift progress. It does seem to make a worthwhile difference in driveability and economy.

I'll try and get a few more pics of his Deep Sea Blue X6, but I'm off to Le Mans in a few days so it may be a while longer.

The ventureshield has been fitted by Nick Phelps of A.M.I., and I pick it up tomorrow so will post my impressions over on DR.
