BMW X6 will be a Sport Activity Coupe.
It will be a performance coupe with higher road clearance / higher sitting position - not a SUV / SAV with coupe-ish shape (ala Infiniti FX or VW Concept A).
Off-road capabilities will be of second or even third, fourth nature - just like interior space: there will be comfort for 4 people, not more!

X6 will be BMW's CLS: but with more SAV than sedan genes.
Like it was said before: jumped-up performance coupe.

Imagine slightly higher & larger XCoupe - with additional pair of doors.

The point: market researches shows upscale customers want more individual performance vehicles: and SACs are such a vehicles in what people are interested in.

Re: BMW X6 (X Sport) crossover vehicle

I don't know that I like this idea, but BMW has yet to build something that I don't like in someone. In addt. to having a love for their no non sense approach to driving dynamics I also appreciate their out of the box standards for design. If there is one company that makes it's own original but grealy linked to the past designs, it's BMW.

Look at the surface work on BMW Concept Coupe Mille Miglia 2006 and you will see (especially if you look at the birds-eye view shot) the elements that will take shape in the forthcoming X6 SAC.

The X6 production car will share a sloping glasshouse similar to the Z4 coupe placed on broad shoulders widening for the wheel arches in the rear.

Even the front lights - the snake eye-like slits that sit on the top edge of the bonnet - although the X6's will be larger.

The X6 will be brutally beautiful. People like to be shocked by design. It's like architechture or furniture design. People like individuality and quirkiness and are turned off by something which is all one shape or form. (ie Computers: eg Applemac to normal PC - people prefer the design to the normal box).

Although the BMW grille will not make a comeback like this.

Re: BMW X6 (X Sport) crossover vehicle

I'm getting more and more afriad that this may be a neat-o vehicle that's not the sum of its parts.

The R-Klasse hasn't gotten off to good start, and I have now question weather or not all the hype about as of yet undeveloped niches is all hot gas. While there's plenty to like about the R, I also get the feeling that it's a project that found lots in the boardroom while trying to read tea leaves.

BMW may yet surprise our asses off. I'm just not yet seeing what benefit this platform provides beyond aside from the novelty of having a somewhat elevated ride height.

It's my belief that the X3 is a genuine bruise on BMW's integrity as a authentic performance brand. I pray they don't make it 2.

CGI by AMS:

But this time they finally got the idea right ... and not to mention it's thier 3rd attempt (beside the blue and the red car posted somwhere in previuos posts) ...

But this time it's a cheap (yet well made) CGI - mix of Z4 coupe & E70 X5 ...

X6 will be of similar shape ... but will have 5 doors, 4 seats - not only 2 - and won't be such obviuos mix of existing BMW models (E86 & E70) ...

Well it's still the best handling and most fun SUV.
And now with the improvements and new engines it won't be a bruise.
Damn, can only imagine that 3 litre twin turbo diesel.

Same as X5 or perhaps an inch or two larger - X6 will use X5's platform: modified for greater dynamic driving.

The only areas of design the actual X6 shares with Z4M Coupe is in the rear tailgate design which like the Z4M Coupe will wrap around the upper shoulder level of the car and lift the same way as the Z4M coupe. The only other occurrence is the shape of the rear window fitting into the rear tailgate is the same shape of the Z4M Coupe which will enhance the sport and performance design of this individual SAC. The design will share a similar shoulder line to the new X5 and the front bonnet will be placed in a similar position. The X6 will cater for four passengers and will have four doors a smaller window with the trademark BMW kink will insert behind the rear doors.

The front of the X6 is not similar to the X5. With triangular headlights as similar to the 5er (E60) - they sit in the front corners which blend in to form the front wheel arches aside the widened twin shell kidney grille which will make its debut in the next 7er - The twin kidneys now appear to be upturned but borders into a more natural twin shape inside the shell.
The shell also forms substance and interplay with the curves on the top of the bonnet and meet in the surround of the shell. where the chromed bars ahead of the radiator will be placed.
The rear of the car gets slim-line rear lights that open up broader when wrapped around the corner of the car which leads direct from the rear bumper area forming the rear wheel arches.
An optional targa roof will become available with individual slats folding towards the rear of the car , as will a full panoramic roof .

There will be no X5-M as BMW reckon X6-M with its unique design and attitude and direction of a performance coupe will sufficiently fill that gap no matter what the cmpetition come up with - BMW are keeping an open mind before venturing down that road not to overplay the M-brand - X6 will at first arrive with NGV8 and twin-turbo V8. Diesel will include V8 and eventually a base I6 diesel. A V10 diesel in development for the 7er may eventually end up in the X6.

An M variation on the M5 and M6's V10 with substantially more output will top out the range.

Emphasizing on the four seasons for X6

One of the exciting concepts of the design phase of the X6 is BMW want to prove that the X6 is capable for all "four seasons": How weather and season can enhance the design of the X6. So we know its going to be a new type of vehicle - A new type of premium segment with the SAC "Sport Activity Coupe". In the concept of brainstorming something that has already been approved for production is the effect that the car will have on color choices both in exterior and interior. Although the exact color choice still has to be fettled this is how things are shaping up so far.

For instance "Desert" will feature strong Gold, Orange and Bronze colors with interior of sand beige or golden orange. With light or dark wood or bronze metallic strips.
"Ice" will enhance exterior color with cool whites and light blue hues with the interior merging with transparent and white trim elements (think ipod) and white and cool blue leather.
"Water" will enhance color of deep sea coral Blues and Greens with interiors to match.
"Autumn" will carry deep red to emphasis the interior and exterior.
And then the "Cloud" which will maintain the Blacks,Greys and Silvers.

Overall controls such as switches, stalks , control knobs etc are being evaluated against modern technology the soft touch keypads of laptops and high end mobile phones, ipods , plasma TV's in order to emulate a high quality "talking point" interior which will begin first with the F01 7er.

Re: BMW X6 (X Sport) crossover vehicle

Please BMW. Just… don't.

I really, really, really don't want to see BMW's already full range to be populated with a "pointlessmobile." Whatever this new X thingie car is called, it had best be the coolest thing sinced sliced pancakes.

Personally, there'd be something appealing about a coupe-type vehicle that rode a bit higher than normal and had massive amounts of rear legroom. Guess we'll have to wait and see…

Re: BMW X6 (X Sport) crossover vehicle

I hope they wont' build such a pointless model, an offroad coupe? well BMW SAVs aren't for off road anyway, so why would you want to be so high up driving a sporty coupe?? i think the person driving it would look pretty dumb...
MB is trying to expand their models with stuff like Bclass and Rclass, which imo is a more elegant way than making all these rough looking SAVs.. if they make a X7 it would be nice, just don't do a X6 please!!

Detroit 2008: X6 concept
Geneva 2008: 3er facelift, 2er coupe
London 2008: M3 sedan
Paris 2008: new 7er
LA 2008: M3 cabrio

Yep I completely agree! the idea of this design is the sum of pointlessness.
Who in the world needs a coupe-like body design thats been crossed with an SUV. It really serves no perpose whatever!! The idea behind the SUV is to have maximum utility, to make the most of it`s space. The basic idea behind this concept is just plain bad.

You, crazy Americans... You are going to buy it, just like your buying 500+hp van - the R63 AMG!
