BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

Do you all believe this X6 will make people rethink large SUVs or will it seemed to be BMWs worst idea?

Based on spy shots alone...

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

Can't really tell.

We will have to wait and see; after all, the Cayenne had everything to be a flop, and yet turned out to be a real life saver to Porsche.

However, I'm not really enthusiastic about the idea of a 4x4 SAV 4-door Coupé.

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

I think it will be a hit.....................just like any other premium SUV really. Despite the high gas prices the appetite for SUV hasn't been satisfied and I know that there are divorced soccer moms who will be quick to sign up for an 09 X6 the first time they'll see one.

Will it change people's view on large SUVs? Unlikely since there is already a very sporty SUV out there called the Cayenne. On the other hand the coupish roof will make it appeal to many who want the coolest and latest like all the Mercedes CLS owners.

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

i personally dont like the shape..but im willing to wait..
but i dont think that will change much
but if its gonna be a hit or a miss?

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

I'd say it's got a lot of potential. Depending on how much higher it's positioned above the X5. If it's the same difference between a 535 and the 650 (50k vs 75k in the US) then it's won't be a blow away hit. If it's a little closer to the X5 price, I think it will do quite well.

I'm sure it will sell, it's a BMW.

Although I will wait till the press pictures come out till I make my final judgement on the design of the car!

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

This will probably be the most dynamic SUV on the market, with 4.4 TT engine and V10 engine, lower point of gravity, etc.

I think it'll be a great hit, and the looks for the finished car will be quite nice I'm sure.

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

Surprise, surprise, I like it.

I like the SAC idea, and the general coupe-ish shape.

Side profile looks great - coupeish & sleek, rear very dominant, the front is very aggressive.

The overall shape is very dynamic, especially the side profile - which is eg not the case in another SAC: Audi Cross Coupe with its forward-leaning rear.

Only the fascia (especially grille, hood & headlights) could be a bit less X5-ish.

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

It will be definitely a big hit, and it could be a mega-big hit if they made the front more aggressive with some elements of the CS
but I m sure it will be a hot-seller

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

What I like about the car so far is the very prominent character line which is more noticeable than the ones on the other bimmers. Looks very edgy and hopefully the front looks as evil as darth vader.

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

I voted to for the "wait and see" option.
I just got back from the dealership to pick my friend's X5 3.0si, and while we were going through all the details, I noticed something.
I noticed that the pictures we have seen thus far of the X6 do not have the rear aero-package.
The believe the lack of the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle could be the reason I might not be "digging" if for now.
I think with that package installed in the rear- it will credit that vehicle with a more appealing look.

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

I went for the "wait and see" because if so far I like the front but I don't like the rear. But seeing that the car is still disguised, it's ok.

I don't like SUVs in general and I definitely don't like one with out the advantages of one - I don't really see the point. But having said that, it will probably be a sales hit any way.

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

I'm yet to be convinced that the X6 has a clear product story that delineates itself from the X5.

The X5 is already an unabashed soft-roader with sport intentions. It runs directly in league with the Cayenne (unless we stop to consider the Cayenne's genuine off-road credentials), so I have to wonder what room that leaves for the X6. Yes, it's low lung and sporty, but then again, so is the X5.

I'm guessing that the X5 grill see see in those spy shots is just cosmetic dressing at this point.

Re: BMW X6 - Hit or miss?

I'm leaning towards a miss at this point, it looks at though it wall zilch in the way of cargo space so it had better really drive great. Still though it is kinda premature to ask this question.
