| Re: BMW X5 M (Spy pics, Info & Impressions) you It's like this, I understand the attraction of a little car with a good power to weight ratio. Lotus elise like cars are good good fun, I can imagine. Handling is superb, cornering as flat as can be. BUT there can also be a lot of fun in going on the highway ( no Corners you know, and like in Belgium, it's ALL highway ) and entering the highway as fast as possible, or just if you're already on it, just pushing your foot down for a moment. Call it macho, I don't care, its gooooood fun. You need a car like this for that kinda fun. I'm not saying BMW should go all MB on their cars and just put big ass engine's in every single model. But let's be honest, the X5 never will be the elise-like handler, you'll never reach those people. So why try it, and just build a bahnstormer that's very good in his own way.

| So the X5 M will have the X6-style kneepads for driver and passanger? For the rest the M interior looks extremly boring and the same as a regular X5, but I suppose that was to be expected....

| DCT gearbox can only handle up 550 nm and since X5M is getting +700nm, the DCT is out of question.

| Andreas: I know there is a torque limitation but how can Porsche do that while BMW can't, I just can't see it. BTW DCT is a Getrag product right ? I mean it is outsourced not inhouse product, Right ? |

| Good point. The Panamera Turbo engine develops 700NM but will be compatible with the PDK tranny. |

I won't be surprised if we see a new DCT transmission for the X(5/6)M cars as they will undoubtedly cost more than the base models thus justifying the more expensive gearbox.

| I think there was an article recently that BMW will not be using DCT on all cars for cost reason. And cars without DCT will have 7-speed transmission if I remember correctly. |

I have no clue if X5M is getting DCT or not but if its the same as the one in M3, then its not possible.

| The Panamera Turbo costs a good penny more than any BMW, so that might explain it.

| Come on klier it is not a matter of cost here, I know Porsche well charge a fortune for its new product but BMW has always been about cutting edge technology especially when it comes to drivetrain. I mean they spend a great deal on their engines but they abandon the gear boxes now ? The SMGI II III are all nice but if they are heading toward forced induction they might need to switch to DCTs too IMO |

Well not boring, but boring compared to the original because it looks so much the same. It's of course still best in class and beautiful

So in this case the car can go faster than 240 km/h, but the tires are only allowed for 240 km/h, so according to German law there has to be a sticker within the drivers view telling him to not go faster than 240 km/h. | |
