Who would have thought it, back in the summer of 2008, that this cute little hatchback, called the Scirocco, a name taken from VW’s glorious past, would be a huge sales success, exceeding 1 million of units sold s0 far. With a love or hate at first sight design, the Scirocco was a very controversial car when it came out, but it managed in about 5 years to reach cult status, with thousands of hardcore fans worldwide, attracted by the many peculiarities of its shape, especially at the rear. We can’t say we disagree with them, and so does Volkswagen, who created an exclusive special model to celebrate the benchmark of one million units built.
The Scirocco Million, painted exclusively in “Deep Black Metallic”, features a variety of celebratory details, like the exterior rear mirror caps painted in “Galvanic Grey” and its “Interlagos” 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/40 tyres (19-inch “Lugano” type are optionally available). R-Line bumpers, R-Line side sills, smoked tail lights, “Million” stickers on the wings and rear windows that are 90% smoked add up to the exterior modifications. Inside, type “Vienna” in black leather seating comes as standard alongside the black roof liner and the leather cover of the parking brake lever and gear lever gaiter.
The Scirocco Million can be ordered with three different petrol engines (TSI), with output ratings of 90 kW / 122 PS, 118 kW / 160 PS and 155 kW / 210 PS, and two diesel engines (TDI), producing 103 kW / 140 PS and 130 kW / 177 PS. All but the 122 PS TSI engines can be combined with a dual clutch gearbox (DSG), with the base price starting from €27,325 in Germany, with production starting at the end of May. You can, finally, find the full press release after the jump.
