Here are the first spyshots of the all new BMW 2 Series F23 Convertible.
In a somewhat surprising set of circumstances, the first spy shots of the two-door variant of BMW’s F2X generation aren’t of the fixed roof, coupe model but rather of the drop-top convertible which, is slated to arrive after the former. Reportedly to be marketed as the 2 Series, one can expect the familiar range of BMW Twinpower turbopetrol engines in four and six cylinder guises to be offered in conjunction with BMW’s class-leading four cylinder turbodiesels. Mechanically, there’s little chance of there being significant differences in the underpinnings department between the hatchback and coupe derivatives.
Where we are anticipating key differentiators is in the exterior styling; we’re looking to see how BMW has reacted to criticism of the F20 1-Series’ less-than-attractive frontal aspect – in particular, are we seeing slimmer, sharper headlights? The rear light clusters too seem to eschew the near-generic shape seen on the hatch for units closer in theme to that of the outgoing 2 door models.
Evidently the convertible 2-Series retains a folding fabric roof and exhibits classic rear wheel drive proportions – both of which making for strong association with the outgoing model. Expect official availability of the 2 Series in the latter half of 2013.
