I am very sad to post this, but here goes:


It's the end of the run for the McLaren SLR Roadster, but Mercedes wants to give Yanks another more shot at owning one. Beginning November 1, those of you who still have bank accounts can sign up for the auction of the final topless SLR to be sold in the U.S.

You'd be right to assume the final edition of a limited run model would bring a huge premium when it goes on the block, as collectors have always put higher values on the first and last of most anything. But if you plan to take this particular knick-knack home, prepare to drain both savings accounts. Mercedes says the car will be the only SLR Roadster wearing Sienna Pearl metallic paint and Tobacco Brown leather. So when you show up to accept your Oscar, no one else will be driving the same one.

The auction begins November 20 at 1 p.m. EST and ends that night at 5 p.m. Bidding starts at $529,500, and anything above that will go to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Splendid! Too bad the car was never up to the expectations and gorgeous design... That color is really special, suits it very very well! Some will re-paint their owns I think...

Stunning colour. Want to see more of that. It funny how MB makes sure the SLR hits the autoblogs at least once every quarter.

I personally think the color is pretty nasty... maybe it's the lighting, I don't know.The sparkling effect is very nice though. Pair that with yellow brake calipers and you can bet I'll take my money elsewhere.

also the last collectors edition of the Smart Roadster was brown inside out..

Interesting point - really shows how carmakers use halo models such as the SLR as much as they can to attempt to boost their brand's image...

I loved this car from the Vision SLR upto today..
I still love it
Its not perfect..but it sure as hell has its own style..

It will be missed..
But im sure MB will give us something even more fantastic to drool over..

As JC puts it "This was and remains the fastest automatic car in the world".
