So let me get this straight. BMW keeps full scale 1:1 models of cars for over 5 years, even the ones that were rejected. Not only do they keep these cars, but they also cover up the rejected models and transport them around.

Why does this make absolutly no sense at all.

None.

There is so much confusion and misinformation here. Tell me another..
Welcome to Damage Control and an on the spot contingency plan.
The design prototype was not meant to be seen because it does portray a future BMW model. Full scale models are either recycled, detroyed or stored immediately after they have fulfilled their use , they are not left lying for five years - we would run out of space if we kept all these design mock-ups. compared to what we have going on just now. And that includes MINI and Rolls-Royce.

Actually ... most clay models are not destroyed. I'm told all the smaller size models are kept, and so are the final two or three designs in 1:1 model. There is storage room in the FIZ building, and from time to time they move the models to a different location run by BMW Archive department.

So, this particular one was kept in FIZ storage for 5 years for unidentified reason. And just decided to move in the central archive storage where also other 1:1 models are.

Mind they also kept GINA in secret for several years!

******

The question which is still unanswered is: design proposal for which BMW series / vehicle this clay model really is.

This is the next thing I'm trying to find out. But there is no real knowledge on this particular car.

Perhaps Hussein saw something in the design studios when he was working there.

Correct. A lot of items collected from a design competition are now photographed and scanned on to our main computer whilst other elements such as clay models or indeed full scale models are crated up and sent to our secret archive storage facility on the outskirts of Munich.

Think Indiana Jones and you get an idea of this industrial space filled with sealed crates and shipping containers.

GINA was kept in the security of the Mobile Tradition and here is something many people dont understand about the Mobile Tradition.
Is that only visitors are allowed to see certain series of cars on certain floors , there are floors that are off limits to the public and contain some things you have seen like the original BMW Z8 Concept car that was unveiled at Tokyo 1997 ,
The first MINI that rolled out a crate @ IAA 1997
to others like the BMW CS6 Concept car that was destined for Geneva 2003 which was basically a cosmetic enhanced 6er Cabrio and other seen brieflly moments such as the E34 M5 cabrio and the original prototypes such as the E34 Coupe and Cabrio and a E39 Coupe which BMW played with the idea of such a model.

People I have spoken to say it was an active proposal.

Yeah, I felt something wasn't right. I guess they needed to say something because someone got some real nice photographs before anyone was even supposed to know this thing was there.

OT posts temporarily deleted, and the thread temporarily locked. Until the dust settles. Since the situation has gone out of control completely.

If you want to make complaints about CM, Scott etc., create a new thread in Suggestions & Comments section. I'll move the "deleted" posts there if needed.

Thanks.
