Project -i : Herausforderndes Coventional Denken (Defying Conventional thinking)

Project -i Herausforderndes Coventional Denken (Defying Conventional thinking)
: BMW Vision Z.

Based on next generation 1er platform
It is the compact segment that will experience high growth and by basing the car upon the next 1er platform costs can be measured across the base that is why the next 1er will offer more expansion in the premium compact segment and offer variants using Mild Hybrid , Full Hybrid , diesel and petrol to fulfill the customers requirements.
BMW need something like a hybrid roadster or coupe in this segment to show a complete 180 approach from the conventional choices customers are faced with regarding hybrids. They aresmall compact and conventional , overall they have and fullfill a purpose but the design or concept says nothing else but sensible. Offering a unconventional Sports car in place of a typical compact hybrid will allow BMW to promote an enticing new medium of what a hybrid can be when removed from the original question.
BMW are wanting to use the next 1er to expand it's range of small premium cars , BMW reckon there is demand for a small , substantial powered small sports car and also something unconventional is required for eco lifestyles , rather than conventional cars that are only about one purpose. The car will retain the typical BMW platform and drive train for front engine and rear wheel drive. The new 1er Platform is flexible to allow modular changes and switch from either front-rear drive or front or rear mounted engines. Maximum use of the 1er platform for the Z2 will relate to both a small Roadster and a Coupe.

Lightweight , dynamic and sporty
Using a high strength steel body ,door skins and front bonnet are aluminium , front wings and bootlid are composite materials.
Propshaft and Engine block manufacturerd from Magnesium.
Target weight for both Coupe and Roadster is 1000KG.

High efficient four cylinders engines
BMW will only offer the Z2 as a four cylinder , no six cylinder engine will be available to keep the car from entering the Z4's segment.
The base engine will be a 1.6 litre engine with twin turbo charging and direct injection , PS output will be in the region of 145-150 PS.
A second engine again a Twin-Turbo four cylinder unit will push out 200-204 PS , a 2.0 four cylinder Twin Turbo will top the range this engine will push out 240-250 PS , An M model is not considered , although a supersports model is certainly a possibility.

BMW eDrive full electric powered roadster
In it's quest to offer customers uncoventional choices to the growing popularity of hybrid concepts. BMW Has developed it's new roadster and Coupe to be fully compatible under it's "Project-i" strategy. BMW will offer a plug in Hybrid with a range extended engine for charging energy cells when the car is in motion. And a full electric version as seen in the first fruit of Project -i The MINI E.

Compact Soft-Top
With the latest Z4 receiving a folding hardtop. The roof of the BMW Z2 will remain as a conventional easy folding soft-top. No electric powered hood will be offered due to the easy fold and secure function of the Z2. The roof section folds in slats with rear window section folding flat and roof concertinaing into the hood compartment.
This allows for more trunk space. And expands the cars lightweight intentions.

BMW Active aerodynamics
GINA always had an intention even though the concept was ahead of it's time , Certain use of innovations learned from GINA are slowly filtering through to todays production cars - With several BMW models offering as part of technology developed for "Efficient Dynamics" opening and closing intakes in the grille slats. This provides optimised airflow and assists with Efficiency. As learned from the GINA The Z2 will feature front Movable front spoiler to provide extra down force and opening and closing intakes and Grille slats to provide cooling for the engine or battery.

BMW LED lighting Technology .
The Z2 Will feature the first phase in BMW's upcoming Intelligent LED technology. The front end appearance of the car is identified in a way that is similar to BMW's interior technology in which instruments are illuminted using a unique black panel technology.
The front of the Z2 with Intelligent LED technology is similar , all you see is the uniquely shaped kidney grille and larger driving lights, when the lights are activted the interpretation of the BMW double headlamps are fully illuminated.
The driving lamps feature is similar to the Rolls-Royce Phantom , but new technology being considered is a Zoom like feature that can focus on objects after being identified by either night vision or camera.
Coupe model as additional variant
To make maximum use of the 1er Platform, The Z2 will also introduce a compact Coupe model , again featuring the same tech as the Roadster including four cylinder engines and Hybrid and Electric models. BMW intend to make the Coupe a very sporty "back to basics performance model for two, again a SuperSports model is considered in place of an M model , with the option of a conventional roof , BMW can consider additional materials such as Carbon Fibre for the roof.

BMW Efficient Dynamics
Both models will feature the latest in BMW Efficient Dynamics technology such as Brake Energy Regeneration , highly efficient petrol engines with the base model offering up to 50-60 Mpg.
Stop-Start will also feature as well as a new transmission that is developed from technolgy from BMW's motorrad division as a unique Z2 feature.

Production
Shown as a Concept first , BMW Z2 arrives mid 2013, BMW Z2 Coupe late 2013.

Great info and welcome! Regardless how previous Scott was perceived, he did share with us some really good information and we should all thank him for that.

No other car forum gets these kind of BMW information directly from the source.

Yes, I agree. The previous Scott did share precious information with us, I greatly appreciated that.
Only some of his posts were a bit too...obvious, too BMW-marketing.

But regardless of that, he was really contributing to the quality of the forum, always providing hot news.

The "old Scott" or "T" will still post here a post or two here. But very rarely.

The "new Scott" or "G" is now in charge for CreativeMarketing communications here.

And I really hope the CM will be taken to a completely new level ... We plan some organizational changes within this forum as well ... Soon. To make CM info even more visible & accessible. Introducing ICMC - Intense Creative Marketing Communications, a step further step in the "Scott" activities.

SCOTT = Special Communication Operations, Tools & Tactics

27 = team's internal code within the department

But "CrativeMarketing (tm)" or "Creative Marketing Communications (tm)" sounds better, doesn't it?

When you say "ALL" I hope you don't include me in that.

Sure he did, but it wasn't as some big favour for the readers of this forum. Why should we thank him? The motivation behind releasing info on here was purely a business decision taken under the guise of "Creative Marketing". Believe me, if he didn't want us to know various "leaks" and info then he wouldn't be posting. Funny, when the new E class was officially launched, there was immediately a "leak" of the front of the F10 5 Series.

You and I, and everybody else on here, are just part of the marketing process and they can choose to include us (or exclude us) at any time they choose.

No need to feel grateful. What next? Thank BMW for putting an advertisement on the TV? Thank BMW for allowing us to buy their cars?

This is a FREE way to create buzz and product awareness. Yes it's nice as a BMW enthusiast, and I include myself in that, to find out about future models, but please lay off the sycophantic posts.

Sure the CM is a BMW-lead advertisment, but it was nicely done by keeping the interest up, releasing an info here and there.

As a car fan, I loved these little leaks and "secrets".

I however think BMW has to be very careful with CM, as it shall never feel "too much", keep the interest going but not annoying the members with excessive marketing.

Some reactions too the old Scott showed it may have been a very little tad excessive, useful info but little too much marketing around it.

The new Scott looks like he's adressing this issue by releasing the infos in a more objective manner. very good.

I also still think Mercedes and Audi are missing a great opportunity here, free advertisement on a very interested audience...

T - the "old Scott" was a true fanatic. And he is very expressive & temperamental by nature. Therefore he was often involved in arguing with other members. I doubt G - the "new Scott" will do the same. The problem was T had been in SCOTT head position too long, starting to take his "job" to seriously. Perhaps that's why he was changed ...

Since SCOOT people aren't necessarily trained PR persons but can also be eg. engineers, product planners, low-level managers, marketers etc. Loyal BMW AG employees with internet obsession ... which can be used in a very creative way - as you can see it here.

****

Regarding Audi & MB ... I don't know. I guess they are not comfortable enough with such communication techniques & tools.

And such operation / experiment as SCOTT proves how innovative, avant-garde & bold BMW AG is ... also in marketing aspect.

I would say that my predecessor was more passionate , remember T was old school BMW. He was with the company when they were playing second fiddle to Mercedes-Benz , So to see and to contribute where BMW has progressed to the no 1 Premium luxury manufacturer is a bit of a personal victory not just for one but many of the BMW personel from that era.

He was extremely passionate regarding the 5er Gran Turismo to which some say a mistake in which T would argue the benefits and positives of the Concept.
Who would have known that in the search for premium comfort that the designers and marketing people visted some of the worlds top end lounges and bars from Munich to Dubai in their quest . To you and me its just a couch in a room but they wanted to incorporate the premium and luxury feeling associated with these interiors in a new concept of car.
The work T has produced with the 5er GT is interesting to see the least because he has made the car out to be a Premium luxury toy something you must have , like a piece of art , architecture or indeed couture.

I have no intention of arguing and forcing opinion. I will let the cars do that eventually.

Yes it's nice as a BMW enthusiast, and I include myself in that, to find out about future models, but please lay off the sycophantic posts.
you're absolutely right, BUT...it's still nice to have BMW people post on a forum and release info. Would you rather not find out anything? True, they release whatever they want to, but hey...it's better than nothing.

It also helps those of us that have inside connections as well and can verify the news with a second source, in this case, Scott27.

Anyway, let's move on, I wish him the best and thanks for keeping this forum more interesting.

Well, I'm looking forward to what you bring to the table...err, I mean this website. LOL

BTW, New Scott, I'm not sure if you have access to the PM's I sent to Old Scott, but if you do, can you please read the last few I sent and either reply to me or forward (or remind) the old Scott about them. I would really appreciate that.

It's just a move to clear some "mysteries".
To make SCOTT work more transparent.

****

Scott from Star Trek?
You mean Montgomery Scott - The "Beam me up, Scotty" guy played by James M. Doohan ?

This fellow? :

No, no, no, no ...

Perhaps you got such impression due to Scott's avatar: featuring Captain Zapp Branningan from Futurama series?

Why captain Zapp ... Since Scott (the man behind) is the "captain". And Zapp is one interesting character.

OK, enough. On topic, please. Project -i, 1er coupe, Z2 etc.
