Re: 2006 S-Class Facelift

I prefer the car without the fenders. Strikes a more elegant shape and I think, a far more proportionate body.

Do you not think this makes the wheels appear too small?

Re: 2006 S-Class Facelift

So we get two choices: Huge wheel arches (in the normal S class) or no arches at all (in the PS'ed image above). I would take NORMAL SIZED arches over both.

Re: 2006 S-Class Facelift

Personally I couldn't imagine the W221 without the wheel arches. It makes the S-class stand out from the rest of the big luxo barges and in my eye gives a much leaner and less bloated look that some other cars suffer from. I also recently discovered a picture of an older Merc having very similar arches in the rear which suggest that arches have in fact been a trait of past Mercedes albiet sportier versions.

Check it!

Re: 2006 S-Class Facelift

I must say that I agree with AlxAmg. It definitely looks better without those huge arches. The chopped one reminds me a bit of that sleek design found on the CLS.

Re: 2006 S-Class Facelift

Yep, ... i'm with Alex and Rammie here.... I like it without those exaggerated wheel arches. Looks more sleek, luxurious and the wheels arches in the originial S-class look forced on to try and make the car look leaner.

Bum-man... as for that pic. Well, it's a bit of a stretch saying that one model which had flared wheel arches is a MB trait of some sorts. It's been absent on MB designs for a while now....but nonetheless, they both have arches, so I guess you got a point.

Re: 2006 S-Class Facelift

Maybe MB will catch on and eliminate those arch's in the future face lift in '08 or something.

Really looks more german without them, i see Camry when i see the profile of the new S.
