Re: Q7 V12 TDI - official pics & info!

Some more things I noticed, is that the V12 wheel arches are bigger. And that the mirrors don't look as "elefantish" to me as on the regular Q7.

Re: Q7 V12 TDI - official pics & info!

Nothing short of outrageous! Give it up to Audi for injecting some serious blood into its range.

What I like the most about this vehicle is that it will occupy its very own niche. Until just now, a superdiesel luxury SUV doesn't exist. Now Audi will own that fame.

I'm not totally mad about the rims, but I think the rest of the packaging is awesome. This thing would sit right next to my M6 in my daydreamer fantasy garage.

Re: Q7 V12 TDI - official pics & info!

An amazing coup by Audi. But the Q7 is simply too specialized a car to have this engine all to itself.

Obviously, the A8 is the clearest next candidate for this engine, as is the R8 if the packaging issues can be worked out.

Two questions though...

How much does this engine weigh?
Without the gerabox limits, what would be the maximum torque output?

Can't wait for the first test drive and see the NVH characteristics. Diesels are not as smooth as petrols, but a V12 configuration and Audi expertise may just change the game...

Good call, the mirrors are much nicer indeed... and the arches gives it a much more agressive look (which I image was the idea?!)

Don't get me wrong, I love the Cayenne, but next to this Q7 V12 Monster, it really looses all my interest.

And as somebody put it on rs6.com:

"Way more HP, more than double the torque ( ), and same fuel economy as the 4.2 FSI?!?!?!?!? "

Re: Q7 V12 TDI - official pics & info!

Performancewise this car isn't ground breaking but it is a mile stone in the world of diesel. Hopefully it won't be too expensive either becasue in my opinion it shouldn't be expensive to be fuel efficient. Hopefully Audi will hit us with more high performance diesel engines.

Re: Q7 V12 TDI - official pics & info!

Bravo Audi. They actually beat Mercedes to the punch, and raised the bar quite a bit. 500hp from a diesel engine, wonder what MB will come up with, and u better believe that they will have an answer soon. Perhaps a 600 hp diesel V12? That is better than the 360hp I have heard in the roumors. Good stuff--this Audi engine impresses me, but would like to see into something akin to the A8, rather.

Re: Q7 V12 TDI - official pics & info!

I don't think anyone buys such a vehicle for fuel economy or the environment, this is a show piece of engineering and power. There are far more economical diesels engine available at Audi for that, this is for bragging rights. I expect Mercedes to follow suit real soon with a 500+ hp V12 Bluetech or CDI engine real soon. I remember seeing a S600 CDI on that spec sheet before the W221 came out. Still though Audi is to be congratulated on this display of engineering might.

You're right. Dont' get it twisted in thinking that Audi thinks of this car any differently. This car is a celebration and culmination of all of Audi's hard work in engineering and building innovative powertrains. What better way to introduce a first of it's kind, high performance diesel, bred from racing in Le Mans, in a stereotypical gas guzzler that's not so much so at all. Kudos' to Audi on this one!!!! I'd love to see the R8 w/ the same engine, that would be spectacular, and no doubt shake up the sports/super car world.

Well you just know they're going to debut a A8 and a R8 with this engine. The R8 in particular will be as close to their racer as feasibly possible, going to be an awesome car.

The big question is though whether or not it will be sold in the U.S. Audi has a habbit of keeping their best cars in Europe/Germany only. Can you imagine an A8, R8 or Q7 on sale in a U.S. dealership? This engine in the A8 in particular will make a good match for the Lexus LS600hL hybrid.

Being rich and being practical is different.

We often stereotype rich people as people who spend a lot, who don't care about finances, and who don't care about how much they spend. This is quite untrue... Although there are many like that, they're also people like Warren Buffet, who drives an old Lincoln and lives in a small house even though he's the second richest man in the world. There are people who do care about fuel consumption even though they're filthy rich... It's no joke.

Nevertheless, on topic, I agree that people who buy this car is buying into something very special.

Small being relative... I used to live a two blocks from the guy and I can tell you his house was not small IMO, maybe modest but definatley not small. I dont know if he drives a lincoln but I know his daughter (big house as well) drives a 6 series convertable and his grandson a Hyaundai santa fe (went to school wit him).

Sorry that was a little off topic.

You're right, such a car would give Audi even more of an "alternative luxury" image more so than it has now. This V12 TDI along w/ the new TT and R8 are image builders for the brand, it would a travesty if Audi of America never tapped into the potential of selling and marketing such revoluationary vehicles here on our shores. Audi could spear head a diesel come back here in the states, so as long as their deisel engined cars are equipped with the necessary technology to make them 50 state legal.

So this is a photoshop?
