Porsche has officially announced the availability of the Cayenne S in a turbodiesel derivative in response to what it refers to as ever-increasing competition in this highly contested segment.
The twin-turbocharged V8 engine is sourced from Audi and endows the diesel-burning version of the Cayenne S with 382 hp (281 kW) and a stump-pulling 850 Nm of torque, putting it ahead of its nearest rivals in the output stakes. Transmission to the all-wheel drivetrain is via the familiar ZF 8 speed automatic gearbox. For those looking to extract the maximum dynamic potential out of their performance SUV, the maker offers Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) as an optional extra. This specialised rear differential boosts torque to the rear wheel with the most grip during cornering thereby mitigating understeer and allowing for turn-in with greater alacrity.
The manufacturer’s claims for fuel efficiency are equally impressive – just 8.3 L/100km (34.0 mpg) of the oily stuff being consumed in the combined cycle – a theoretical range of 1000 km thus being possible on the standard 85 L fuel tank.
Of course one can expect the full gamut of Porsche options to be available together with the commensurate increase to the figure at the bottom of the offer-to-purchase.
