| young people and fast cars... I've been peering around from board to board including M5board.com, and I've noticed in these places quite a few young people(early to mid twenties - hell, at least they look that way) have these really nice, fast, and expensive cars. It's amazing that they can accumulate that much wealth in such youth(of course there's some old money), when many work into the later half of their lives to make purchases that are that expensive, especially cars. Good for them, I'm happy for them, this is just all so very interesting. I must say for myself that even after my first big pay check, once I start my career that is, you won't see me driving a car in excess of $60k, there's a time for everything in my book, and there are priorities, indeed you only live once, but be sensible about it ![]() |

| Re: young people and fast cars... I personally plan on driving a Ferrari Enzo but living in a cardboard box. Perhaps others have decided to follow in my footsteps. In all seriousness though, spending a lot of money are your car may turn out to be a better investment that you think. I understand that from a resale standpoint, it may not be the best call, but for many people, they spend so much time in their car that it might as well be a second home. Imagine driving 1.5 hours to work in the morning and then driving back at the end of the day. A lot of people do it. If you're going to be spending a large amount of your day in your car, possibly more than you spend at home aside from sleeping, having a nice car makes sense. I say you should spend money on things you use and if you get a lot of use out of your car, get one you're going to really enjoy.

| Re: young people and fast cars... Let me quote my boy Ferris Bueller here ...: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."Cameron--- "The 1961 Ferrari 250GT California. Less than a hundred were made. My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love, it is his passion."Too enjoy a fine car you have to have a passion for it! AlxAmg! As for me a comfortable luxury sports car is my kinda thing! If you have the money, then it isnt about the money, its about the love! Some people are very successful at a young age and may have started working at an even younger age, and have built up what they need, they may have already bought a home, and took care of many other priorities. A car is a pleasure for me, a passion, and as Porsche Guy said, the amount of time spent in the car is key, if i had a 10-30 minute ride a day i would have owned a little 3'er and a Lambo/Ferrari for a weekend type car. But i still would have spent money on my cars wether i drive it daily or not. I am really an addict to cars, and it makes me happy to enjoy the finer ones! Its a pleasure for me, always was, even when others got cars that i always loved and hoped of getting, i felt good for them, and was always happy and excited with them, its just the love for cars that one has, it makes a world of difference!

| Re: young people and fast cars... One thing is for sure, whether they bought their own car or not, they are real car fans - or else they wouldn't be on these forums. When I was a teenager, I had some friends who had really nice cars given to them, but most bought their own after working for them. Some people get a bit envious when they see someone quite young driving a car that most middle-aged people can only dream about owning, but envy is such a self-destructive thing - and one thing I have learned in life is - things are seldom as they seem - nobody's life is perfect - we should all be grateful for what we have and strive for what we want - not get bitter and jealous of those who we feel have got a "better deal" in life - life is just too short for that.

| Re: young people and fast cars... Jealousy is an ugly thing, and i's childish, and it never works. All I have to say is that those young guys(who am i saying "young"?) are quite fortunate, hope they take good care of their M5's. Still waiting on my 335 ![]() |
