But the love for those cars was burnt into the core of my being in those years. And then I of course had the two E320's in the last 5+ years.
My dad had a DKW 1000S in the late 1950s / early 1960s I believe and my grandmother had a late 1970s Audi 80 sedan. We never owned a Mercedes-Benz until the 1985 300SE entered our life at a second hand car dealership.

But my father always told me stories of how when he was younger he drove his boss's 190D Fintail and a post World War II 170D!

Yes, the pre 1960 1000S cars had the DKW badge. Then in 1960 the badge/identifier in the front just above the grille changed to Auto Union, and on the grille there were the 4 rings. At that time they called the car Donau (instead of Auto Union). A couple of years later the name was DKW again, but the four rings remained in the F series cars and the DKW badge did not return. Those were the ones that were the cars immediately before the change of name to Audi, and the four rings remained again, and the old Audi badge was not revived.

I remember the 190D Fintails too. They were all great. And the 170D is of course part of the same 170 series that I am so fond of. One day I'll get one of those just as a collection item. They were very special. A throwback to 30's cars still in the 50's.

Re: What's your two brand bias?

I voted for BMW and Porsche because I'm bias towards the sporty cars.

Re: What's your two brand bias?

Mercedes and Porsche, Luxury/comfort and pure sportiness best of both worlds really.

Re: What's your two brand bias?

I honestly can say that I no longer have a bias -- it used to be Mercedes and Porsche ......but now I am a huge fan of Audi and I think the recent BMW's are some of the most exciting cars of our time ...so I simply cannot say I like any of them more than the others.

I like Audi's and bimmers as well but deep down in my heart and guts I'm still Porsche/MB biased.

I don't know about that. You could say the same thing about BMW.
Think about it. BMW owns Rolls Royce, so the luxury and comfort is totaly owned , and then BMW has cars like the Z4 M Coupe, upcoming CSLs versions, so pure sport here too.

Re: What's your two brand bias?

Among Germans brands it goes Mercedes, Porsche, Audi and BMW in that order for me. The two biases are MB and Porsche, but Audi is very, very close to Porsche's position.
