Didn't you read about what I said about the M mode? You have complete control over the gear selection in the C55 and you can shift with buttons/paddles on the back of the steering wheel. It's like driving with SMG, except that the shifts are not as quick as the S6 mode of SMGII.

Although M mode is nice, there really isn't that much shifting that's required for short tracks. Only gears 2, 3, and 4 were used at my track event. Most of the time, I left the transmission in S (sport automatic) mode. AMG Speedshift is a "smart" performance tuned automatic transmission. After a few laps, the transmission knows you're pushing it. It actively downshifts under heavy braking, it then HOLDS the gear during corner entry and corner exit so there isn't the unwanted upshifts during a corner which could upset balance. It's not perfect, but good enough for a newbie driver like myself to catch the attention of some BMW M3 drivers......LOL.

You think you can't have fun in a C55? Let me tell you that you can have fun in almost any car that's capable of the acceleration and cornering ability of cars like the M3, C55, S4/RS4. Heck, you can even have fun in a Civic Si. On a track, you can do things at speeds which you could NEVER do on the streets.
and people whine on SMG for not being as fun as a manual so yes Im allowed to whine on an automatic. Please do me a favor, tell those who complain on SMG to be quiet

sure you can have fun in a C55, I have had lots of fun in a C43 AMG down to Golf GTi so I believe you, so dont try to tell my something I havent said

I still stand with what I said earlier, easier doesn't mean its the most fun car to drive. No fanboy talk, just the truth.

and I challenge you, I will beat you on any track even if I drive your C55 Welcome to Sweden!

haha.......for me, part of the great fun and pleasure that track day was being FASTER than some M3's. Who knows, maybe I may have gone even faster if I drove an M3!!

Just trying to bring you back down to reality and to remind you that BMW didn't create the Heavens and Earth...

It was Mercedes that did all that.

Blasphemous!

Since I hijacked PC Valkyrie's thread, back to topic...

Awesome that you are using the C55 to it's full potential.
I'm glad you put those M3's in their place Valk. Show them Munich boys the Affalterbach men are not to be trifled with!

The stability control and traction control cannot be completely turned off in the AMG cars prior to the current "63" series cars.

When the "ESP Off" button is pushed in the C55, the engine power cutting aspect of the traction control is turned off. However, the electronic pseudo LSD mimicking system cannot be turned off. In other words, if one of the drive wheels has less traction and starts spinning excessively, the brake will still intervene on that spinning wheel which leads to transfer of power to the other wheel with more traction through the open differential. Without a mechanical LSD, this is probably not a bad thing. The good news is there is no cutting of engine power in this setting so the car doesn't get "bogged down".

Another thing that happens when you push the "ESP Off" button is the threshold of the stability control is raised significantly. In other words, the car will be able to understeer or oversteer to a much higher degree before the computer decides that you've run out of talent and saves your butt. For a pro driver who wants full control of large power slides, this is often a criticism of AMG cars. For me, I found that I could do quite a large power-oversteer angle when I push the "ESP Off" button. I'm just not skilled or brave enough yet to push the envelope even more, so it hasn't really become a problem for me yet.

There is a "dyno" mode where you go through the car computer to activate. In this mode, all electronic aids are truly turned off completely. The problem is that ABS is also disabled in this mode.
