Zonda R: More info on Pagani's Ferrari FXX fighter

Italian automaker Pagani has released several new lifelike illustrations of its forthcoming Zonda R, a track-specific version of its Zonda supercar. The car was first announced earlier this year, but only crude sketches were released.

The new coupe was designed with one goal in mind: "the ultimate performance at the racetrack without any implications of rules, except for safety," the company said. It is expected to compete against the Ferrari FXX.

The Zonda R was designed from scratch, with only 10 percent of Zonda F components being carried over. It features a 750 horsepower from Mercedes' AMG division, derived from the CLK GTR race car.

The wheelbase has grown by 47mm, the overall length by 394 mm and the track is increased by 50mm. The bodywork and aerodynamics have been modified to offer maximum downforce.

The project began at the request of an Italo-American customer, enthusiast and proud owner of three Zondas. It's not known how many Rs Pagani will build, but each car is expected to cost over $1.5 million.

Way better looking than a FXX. Hopefully some one will compare them on a track.

Not a fan of any, but it sure looks 10 times better than Enzo... I hope it drives like that as well...

The front reminds me of the Reventon. And very interesting to see it together with the new SL

Like I said on the SL BS thread: does the fact that the SL is tested along with the Zonda (R is seems) means that the SL BS will have the 7.3l V12, with 580cv or a bit more?
Then the SLR should be upgrqded a bit alos, possibly with the V12 7.3 of the Zonda R, 750hp @8000rpm?

Maybe AMG said to Pagani:
- okay, we turn the better engine in the world into something even better, even more powerful, but then we will use it also in some special series, like we did with the very rare R129 SL73 AMG?
-well, a manual 7.3l SLR would threaten our Zonda...
-No, no, you've tried the SLR, no threaten at all... Much heavier, better equiped, more practical... Not an extrem supercar like your Zonda. And the SL BS, well, it's a SL after all, a 7 years-old roadster. It will kill the F430, not the Zonda! You know, surely Fangio would have loved the idea...
-well, ok, let's go!

I highly doubt it. Pagani is one who desires to stay independent.
