40-Year Old BMW 2500 Review from AMS

A dynamic alternative to the Mercedes 6-cylinder sedans. BMW based the 2500 model off smaller BMWs and simply copied over the successful formula. The 6-cylinder engine is rev-happy and smooth and almost feels like an NSU Wankel engine, with the exception of needing less oil and fuel. The 2500 is very quick with its 150-horsepower. 0-100 km/h takes place in 8.9 seconds and thus feels like a real sports car. At the same time it is as agile and easy to control as smaller BMWs - even without power steering. The downside to this is that on rough roads the steering system absorbs all unevenness and thus forces the driver to correct the trajectory path of the vehicle. Nevertheless the 2500 also impresses with great seats, the new ZF transmission and the drivers position. Compared to Mercedes or Citroen alternatives, the 2500 is a car with a hard suspension. If you're often alone you'll have nobody to complain too about the driving comfort. Despite this, the car appears to be a winner.

Very respectable performance figures for a 4-door saloon back then.

Even today those numbers are still impressive.
