| We were doing last minute work on the Concept before trucking it to Frankfurt. We had already completed interior work within the confines of the Welt and we doing exteriors. Regarding M.Michalsky. If you subscribe to our BMW TV.De channel you will find his work very prominent in some of the programmes. At the IAA The Vision Efficient Dynamics will be located in a special area surround by a track which will have the cars on a to say it accurately a treadmill . He has designed the outfits for this area which will be worn by the host and hostess'es, in a futuristic white pure clinical Sci-Fi look that will be complimented by the Alpine White "Efficient Dynamics" cars. @ Geneva next year we will show a Concept advanced diesel Active Hybrid 5er alongside the actual production car , and another concept that will give a preview of our intentions regarding our Mega City Vehicle. |

| Interesting to see Joji Nagashima there alongside Adrian ... It looks he indeed has got some managerial position in design department after all. Being AvH's right hand - kind of an informal BMW Automobile design chief? Sure he is one of the most prominent, productive & successful BMW designers (penned E36 3er, E36/7 Z3, E39 5er, E90 3er), so I would not be surprised. Since all the other prominent BMW designers all got managerial positions: AvH (E65 7er, E63/4 6er, Z9 Concept) first being DesignWorks president, then Bmw Automobile design chief, now BMW Group chief of design; Anders Warming (GiINA, Z4, Mille Miglia Concpet) being head of exterior design BMW Automobile; Marc Michael Markefka (E92/3 3er coupe & cabrio, E82/8 1er coupe & cabrio) being chief of exterior design RR; Chris Chapman (E87/1 1er hatch; E53 X5) is chief of automobile deign Designworks. So only Nagashima is without any prominent position. At least official one. Although I won't be surprised if he is named chief of design BMW Automobile anytime soon. Or perhaps he lacks communicational skills - since today design chiefs & designers are often used for promo / PR stuff as well. |

Interesting thing for me is that BMW has a new Senior Vice President of Body and Trim- no longer Dr Markus Braunsperger. This is by far one of the most important engineering positions within R&D. The head of Body development usually becomes the future development chief. Current development chief, Dr Klaus Draeger use to run body development, so to former R&D chief Dr Wolfgang Ziebart.

Yes, I've heard before Joji was given a managerial position several times in the past but declined it every time. So I guess he still works as a design team leader / senior designer, or something similar. ![]() Quote:
So, be sure Mr Wolf is a very competent guy - knowing a lot what's going on on the material & tooling levels ... what is possible & what not. ![]()

| I have come to the conclusion that the grille on the Vision Efficient Dynamics is the most stunning twin kidney BMW has ever produced. I love that element the most of the whole car!

C'mon it's one of those tacky design feature typical for Concept cars ... Eg. X6 ActiveHybrid Concept had that tacky movable exhaust pipe cover, and blue LED illumination of side sills & rear bumper - all to indicate the car can also operate in full-electric mode only. Such features are a reward to designers: giving them "a toy" - letting them to express the kid inside. Wouldn't you be excited as well when had a chance to design a BMW Concept car? The real one - not one of those pre-production ones. Sure it feels good when you're allowed to let your fantasy go - and being allowed to use some tacky design feature. ![]()

| I agree, they were bound to do some of that Christmas style design features to make the car a true concept. I guess I would have gone aswell...

| BMW Efficient Dynamics Concept Officially Unveiled at Frankfurt Preview Event ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() BMW hosted a preview event to the IAA in Frankfurt where its Vision EfficientDynamics hybrid super car concept was officially unveiled. Company chairman and CEO Dr. Norbert Reithofer spoke and said something very interesting regarding his company's preferred future powertrain solution. "The car needs to evolve through innovation," said Reithofer . "We are the engine more efficient and make the total of vehicle technology more optimally. In addition, Hybrid is also for us a temporary solution. And especially for large metropolitan areas, a car is needed for electric base. We will continue our research work which hydrogen regard." So it seems that although the Vision EfficientDynamics is extremely advanced in engine and body construction technology, it is not the final solution for the foreseeable, sustainable future. To recap the 2+2 seater is powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo diesel hybrid with a total system output of 262kW (356 hp) and maximum torque 800Nm (590 lb-ft). It goes to all four wheels via two electric motors located on both the front and rear axles. The 0 - 100km/h sprint time is 4.8 seconds and peak velocity is electronically limited to 250km/h. The car's acceleration and top speed performance are stunning considering it has an average fuel consumption figure of 3.76 litres/100 km (75.1 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 99 g/km. | sorry but this concept does not move me one bit .. neither the car or the techonology is production ready .. so what make it different than other Japaneese futuristic concepts we saw the last couple of decades ? The fact that it will be produced within 5-7 years ? by then most advanced manufacturers (lead by toyota) would have such solutions ... if being implemented in a sports car that is different, Tesla exists today and by cooperating with Mercedes it will advance even further, not to mention Fisker automotive which made a great progress also .. so to summ up: I am not impressed, Sorry BMW. |

| i beg to differ sayyaf about the technology, if anything, the tech inside this car is more relevant than all the "green" concepts at the IAA. the 3 pots are coming in the next 2 years with the introduction of the new 1er then 3er. the hybrid tech will follown in the next 2-3 years at most (IMO) again with the 2er 3er and then 5er. this thing is greener than all the lexuses mercedes and what have you hybrid jumbo cars, (active hybrid 7 included) and more relevant to you and me than all the above. |
