This year's Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este has its public day tomorrow, which is when the world will presumably get its first look at the new BMW M1 concept, a stunning, modern take on Munich's original supercar that is part of Bimmer's 30th anniversary celebration of the classic machine. The private exhibition took place today, however, and the guys at Asphalte.ch -- they were the first with live shots of the Lamborghini LP560-4 earlier this year -- have once again scored a coup, snapping the new, copper-colored M1 concept in all its glory, both alone and alongside its forebears. We expect to have a lot more on this car tomorrow (assuming a press kit will be released sometime overnight), but for now, head to Asphalte.ch to see more shots of the car under the lights. Hey BMW, just pull the trigger and greenlight a production version already, because this thing is awesome.

That looks INSANE. A well executed concept that pays homage to the original in the most retro of ways.

Looks great except for the wheels and the Chevy headlight design...

Yawn! A complete bore, very uninspiring. What happened to "forward not backwards"??? Way too much retro.

But it's just an "anniversary concept" - just like BMW Mille Miglia 2006 Coupe Concept was. Presented for Villa d'Este exhibition.

It's a project of BMW Mobile Tradition department - just like MM 2006 was.

The car is a homage to the original M1 (same case with MM 2006 Concept vs the original Mille Miglia coupe) - therefore the official car title is BMW M1 Hommage. As celebration of 30th anniversary of the original M1.

Somehow the front reminds me of Alfa Romeo Brera slightly..

I personally think it looks ab-so-lute-ly amazing!

As Eni stated it is a Hommage to 30 years of the M1.

There is no plans for production but if there were it would be an "Efficient Dynamics" showcase for environmental technology either with hydrogen or Hybrid power producing 0 emissions. in fact someone should be concerned about using the copyrighted by BMW - "M-Zero" tag.

What you have seen so far with the current "Efficient Dynamics" tech. Is just the tip of the iceberg. There are far many more developments still to come to production which will take BMW further from the competition in environmental tech.

Purists may hate it and traditionalists may despise the new direction , but it is the path BMW are on and are not going to stray from it just because someone has brought out another 15 minute vanity project.

I really don't know what to make of this. They show homage to a late 70's car by creating something which looks like a early/mid-90's motor show concept car...
That said, it looks a whole lot better than most of what BMW has in production these days...
