| Re: AutoZeitung: New "M1" model from BMW? I hope it's just a dream by Autozeitung. BMW supercar. That would be a complete waste of resources. I hope BMW are not jumping on the bandwagon. I would rather see them to focus on more important products than a supercar. Although .... BMW recently protected copyrights for original designs of M1, Isetta, BMW 328 & BMW 507. That - I guess - is a sign they are working on the successors of these cars, and the original designs will be used in marketing campaigns. They did the same with 1er coupe - before starting marketing activities, they had protected copyrights for 2002 design (which was later used in marketing campaign - in US market most noticeably). So, M1 ... BMW supercar 507 ... large roadster (Z8) 328 ... small roadster (Z2) Isetta ... city car by BMW Group |

| Re: AutoZeitung: New "M1" model from BMW? More important products, like goofy hatchback sedans (what the hell is a progressive activity sedan?) and more SUVs? Right? A BMW sports car isn't going to hurt anything. M

| Re: AutoZeitung: New "M1" supercar from BMW? Since BMW have cancelled M3 V8 CSL then they should at least give us another fast inspiring vechicle.

Sure, keep on dreaming that Luw. But just FYI, the M3 DCT already matches the R8. If BMW is going to make a new supercar, it'll be something like a new McLaren F1, which is precisely 7 leagues above the R8 and GT3

Offering such excessive model during the excessive cost-cutting program would be a bit ironic, and not well appreciated by the investors. And I highly doubt BMW will offer a mid-engine car. A super-sporty coupe as a spin-off from new Z8: yes. Mid-engined exotic supercar: no. I'm sure in a few years BMW will offer a proper 2-seater large coupe - to fight some Ferrari models, SLR, new 928 from Porsche etc. Badged as eg. M9 or M10. But no mid-engined car like R8. That's affordable for Audi - since getting in-house know-how from Porsche. BMW would have to invest a waste amount of resources in such a project.

| Re: AutoZeitung: New "M1" supercar from BMW? People arent asking for a mid-car (altough I would love to see it, easy way to improve handling) but they are asking for a sportcar, no matter where the engine is placed. And now they cancelling M3 CSL, why are bmw giving me headache with their stupid decisions.

| Re: AutoZeitung: New "M1" model from BMW? BMW has done mid-engine before so they can do it again. They're the only ones still using an I6 and they manage brilliantly. It would have been much cheaper to go the V6 route so its not like hey aren't used to doing things outside the norm. Applying advanced engineering to get things done differently from others is some of what German engineering is all about. Still though a M9 or M10 would be nice I guess though they all still sound like GTs to me. BMW must not turn into the German Toyota. Making money is nice, pleasing enthusiasts while making money is much more enviable. If Toyota can invest in a serious new sports car for Lexus, BMW can to. M

| Re: AutoZeitung: New "M1" supercar from BMW? IMO BMW has to defend its reputation as "the sportiest of the three". Making money is excellent, selling 3-Series is excellent. But if everybody has fabulous sportcars and BMW has only SAV and PAS, they slowly will become the weakest of the three. And therefore the less sporty. Not doing this car, for BMW, is making a great gift to Audi and opening the door, telling them "go ahead and take our place! We think our reputation is not worth defending against you. Now BMW is specialized in sedans and SUVS, take the sporty throne!" BMW's image has not been created with 320d and X5, it has been created by passion, racing, superb engineering and sporty vehicle. Now that everybody has an M3 (even if a bit less sporty, people don't see the difference), including Lexus and Cadillac, it is not enough any more to stay on top. You need an R8, a 911, a SLR or whatever. You need a bit passion! And BMW needs a flagship that would weight a bit less than 2,5 tons, imo... ![]()

Audi has the R8 and sorry i really dont think the M3 can compete with it... R8 is more as an Image car although its not powerful but it has the features of a super car.. The Look The Design The Engineering etc.. M9 M10 to compete with what? CL65 CL63 ? We dont want a Bugatti veyron rival from BMW .. a Super Sexy sport mid engine exotic car that is backed with a high performance package would boost their image..And just in limited number 300 or 500 cars wont lead to bankruptcy... I really like how VW group spent alot on the Bugatti Veyron project just for marketing and re-boost the brand name again in the market.. and the outcome is The fastet sport car in the world...

| Re: AutoZeitung: New "M1" supercar from BMW? Yeah, don't need to build a Veyron or a Zonda. Take the motor of the M5/M6, it is perfect for that, not even need to tune-it up, and put it in an attractive mid-engine car with an impressive, sporty shape, of course give it excellent engineering...but it won't be led to BMW's dead to develop that. And it will boost their image, at a moment where Audi is getting sportier and sportier while Benz is getting back really fast and rebuilding its image. And of course, Lexus begin to create the F and a mid-engined car, so BMW can't lag behind its competitors on this terrain. Trouble is, all these PAS and SAV and things need lots of R&D, and of course the next 7er is full testing, and the next 8er is a very important project...BMW can't do too much things and end-up with half-good cars. The "supercar" should have a place in the calender imo.
