| Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe ^^I think that is correct Jade. I was hoping the CS concept would be developed into the full-size 7 series -- it would be the most desirable 4-door car in the world. However, if this is going to be something like the Merc CLS, I am slightly disappointed.

| Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe After seeing the CS concept in real life, I don't think the physical dimensions of the car are suitable for a full size 7 series. The roof is just so low that the target customers for the 7 series will complain about it. Also the boot opening is very narrow, those old customers won't be able to get their golf bags into the boot. The CS does look like a coupe and I think the production version will have to be something like the CLS otherwise the production version won't be faithful to the concept.

| Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe ^^Thanks Monster ....I remember you saying that it was shorter than it appears in pictures ...when you saw it in Sydney. I wonder though, if that short boot will be a common design feature across the next generation BMW range.

Huh? What are you talking about? The Concept CS will be a real car named 8-series. And it'll be a carbon copy of the current concept car. We will have a roomy 7-series, and a sporty 8-series, both with 4 doors and very big. The 8er (CS) will be nothing like the CLS. It'll be much bigger, much more luxurious, much more high tech, faster and much more expensive. Think Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide.

I have seen the car in real life in Frankfurt. It's freaking HUGE. Bigger than the current E65 7er. More than 5 meters long.

Yep. The car is 5.1m long ... CLS stops at 4.9m. CS is 1.37m high, CLS 1.40m. CS width: 1.98m , CLS: 1.87m So, CS is quite longer(+20cm), wider(+11cm) yet lower (-3cm) than CLS. ![]() Last edited by EnI; 12-09-2007 at 12:24 PM.

| Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe Yes it's a lot longer than a CLS- but lower. I've seen the thing at Sydney. Very long, wide and sleek. An absolute beauty!

Absolutely. Mind that all BMW niche models are now considered as statements. X6, F5, 1er coupe & cabrio (aka 2er), Z-cars, M-cars, 6er, and 8er won't be any different. The car will redefine the sports luxury segment. BMW guys say the only true competitor of this car will be AM Rapide when finally built. Panamera is higher, more fastback-ish ... not so sleek & elegant as 8er & Rapide. As well not as luxurious. New 8er will be BMW's strong statement of sports luxury. It will definitely boost brand image. Just like the new Z8 will.

| I want one already ...the waiting list for this car will be years long!! What is the headroom in the back like though? ....the CLS gets some complaints from taller people.

I can't recall any coupe where 6ft+ persons can seat comfortably in the back seats. Mind that coupes are mainly driver's cars ... no matter how many doors they feature. ![]()

It depends on the point of view ... If you consider 4dr coupes as sedans with coupe-like sloping roof then - yes - functionality is compromised. But on the other hand: if you consider 4dr coupes as proper coupes with just added two more doors - then this is an enhanced & improved funcionality over 2dr coupes. ![]() Same case with eg. SAC: you can consider it as an completely compromised & dysfunctional SAV, or as a super functional all-purpose coupe with a lot of space, functional 5 doors, and even some quite descent off-road capabilities. ![]()

| Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe ^^Good points Tine .....but remember, this vehicle is over 5 metres long ...so it's hardly the dimensions of a usual coupé -- LOL. I'm not complaining though, I love it all the same.

| Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe Hhehe...yeah I must admit, it's pretty great. I actually think the Concept CS is the most beautiful car BMW has ever created, so I was in heaven when I heard the car is actually going into production as a standalone model above the 7er line, as a near carbon copy of the concept And to think the coming 7er, 6er, 5er etc will follow this new design language as well makes me even more happy. BTW, it's funny to read through the first 10 pages of the initial thread and read people's first reactions. So much hate

| Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe Quote:
The length has nothing to do with headroom, don't you think ... The height is the problem here. The car is only almost 137cm high ... That's the problem. That's the same height as M6. But you should know that when it comes to the ultra-expensive sports coupe segment the functionality doesn't matter much. I doubt many (I even dare to say NONE) of 8er buyers will be interested in the cars functionality. Btw ... Aston Martin Rapide is even lower than the CS (136cm vs 137cm). ![]() Here is the dimensions comparison of AM Rapide & BMW CS Concept (LxWxHxWb): Rapide: 5.0m x 1.92m x 1.36m x 2.99m CS : 5.1m x 1.98m x 1.37m x 3.14m
