| Re: Audi R4 Τhe rendering is just a speculation. I 'm sure the grille will have similar shape with the R8's one.

| Preview: 2011 Audi R4 ![]() Many believed talk of Audi’s future mid-engined Cayman rival was pure fantasy but then details about the carmaker’s future lineup were published by Quattro Quarterly (a publication released by the Audi Club of North America) and one of the cars on that list was in fact the long rumored R4. Set to appear in June 2011, the new R4 will get its own unique platform and will likely appear in both coupe and roadster bodystyles. Like the R8, the new R4 will feature aggressive styling and will only be able to seat two. Several engine options will be on offer as this won’t be an exclusive supercar like its bigger brother. Expect to see a range-topping model with a high-output turbocharged mill developing in excess of 300hp. Base models, meanwhile, will make do with an uprated version of the 2.0L TFSI engine. As this rendering suggests, the R4 will pick up some styling cues from the recent A1 Metroproject concept car as well as share many similarities with the bigger R8. Although it doesn’t have the familiar side-blades, the R4 still features a pair of gaping vents positioned in front of the rear wheels. The chassis will feature steel construction but engineers are targeting a final kerb weight of around 1,250kg, and although the mid-engined Boxster and Cayman seem like the most obvious competitors Audi officials insist the new car is designed to rival vehicles from BMW’s M division and AMG. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/coupes/preview-2011-audi-r4/

| Audi denies R4 plans Despite numerous reports claiming Audi’s new Cayman-rival is in development, senior officials have confirmed there is no ‘baby’ R8, or R4 as most sources have been calling it, currently in the works. However, before we rule the new model, remember that carmakers are well known for their tenacity in denying the existence of products until as late as possible. Last week an Audi spokesman told Automotive News the carmaker has no plans to build such a car. “It was never in our product planning,” he told reporters. While the latest denials from Audi aren’t encouraging, perhaps the Germans are taking a leaf from Ferrari’s book. The Italian sports carmaker denied unequivocally the existence of any Ferrari 2+2, yet that is exactly what will be sitting at the Ferrari stand at October’s Paris Motor Show. The R4 was expected to be a more focused and sporty TT with a better looking body and styling cues from the larger and more expensive R8 supercar. Previous reports claimed the car was due by mid-2011 and that it would feature a brand new mid-engine platform. Considering its closest competitors would have been the aforementioned TT and the Cayman/Boxster from Porsche, which of late has been having a much more influential role in the affairs of Audi and its parent company VW, it’s not surprising officials have decided against developing the car. | Re: Audi R4 Good because I was worried that PAG & VAG was beginning to walk down the path of internal disintegration. There is no gap between the TT and Cayman what could possibly justify a small mid engined coupe. |

| Re: Audi R4 Cool concept, cool car. Then again you run into potential overlap between VW and Porsche products, but it may work if they position and package the car correctly as their respective markets demand. |

| Re: Audi R4 So this car is really in the pipeline then? Sadly it's a waste and will end up being yet another crippled midengine car in the lineup. Right now we've got two of them the Cayman and the R8. |

| Re: Audi R4 No doubt! Gorgeous young woman she is indeed, not to mention extremely smart (ivy league student). I've watched her performances (she did the best she could the other day, come up short sometimes) and interviews and she's definitely a girl worth admiring. |

| Re: Audi R4 I figure it would slot in between the TT and Cayman, and in that way become yet another underpowered VAG car with untapped potential. The R8 and Cayman are crippled like hell so adding another midengine car is just pointless. |
