Meet the £250k engineless exotic



The car you're looking at is not a car; it's a life experience, according to its Italian creators.
This is the new F&M Autos Antas V8. Based on the designs of Italian supercars from the 1930s to the 1960s, the Antas V8 is intended for the discerning buyer who wants a bespoke car unlike almost any other on the road.
The car is created entirely by hand from aluminium, and prospective owners can tailor their vehicle to their own detailed specification both inside and out. More than this, the customer can choose almost any powertrain they want for their Antas, provided it'll fit under the car's bonnet and drive the rear wheels.
The Antas buying experience goes something like this. Step one is to decide upon the exact design and specification of your car; in step two you provide the donor car for the mechanicals; you then wait for eleven months while your car is built; and finally, assuming everything goes according to plan, you take delivery.
The practise of providing your own powertrain harks back to the halcyon days of the pre-war Italian sports car industry, when, says F&M, "it was common for customers to provide their own mechanicals."
The Ferrari 599 GTB, BMW M6 and Dodge Viper are suggested as suitable engine and transmission donors, but we assume you could venture further off piste in search of a donor car, should you wish. Why not, after all, send F&M a million-pound Bugatti Veyron to chop up, or one of the 37 remaining Ferrari 250 GTOs?
While waiting for their cars to be built, F&M Auto's customers are offered excursions to see their car and to visit the Tuscan countryside at company expense.
Free holiday with your car? Sounds great, until you discover that the Antas starts at 400,000 Euros – excluding the cost of the supercar you have to butcher for oily bits.
