MINI Paceman photos leaked! | German Car Forum News

Usually some automotive blogs or major European sites are responsible for leaks. This time, it was MINI’s own fault, or MINI’s online version of it’s print magazine, the MINI Space, to be precise. It turns out, that the Paceman is more or less a 3-door Countryman, with its rear design heavily influenced from the BMW X6.

The MINI Paceman is scheduled to debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show, in late September, and will arrive in the dealerships this November. For more photos head over to motoringfile.com, who leaked the said images first.

I believe that the 1.6 litre Prince engine collaboration was a stop gap solution that necessitated partnership with the PSA Group because of the lack of suitable small-capacity engine availability within BMW.
The previous generation MINI made use of the Tritec engine in an alliance with Chrysler but this dated SOHC engine was at the end of its shelf life. With BMW still firmly deploying naturally aspirated 4 pots into its 1er and 3er previous generations, they needed a quick leg up on small capacity engines for the MINI Mk2. BMW brought Valvetronic to the party and the collaboration has resulted in an excellent engine range fit for purpose.

All this of course will change now that BMW has announced the first of its new, modular engine concept, 1.5 litre 3 cylinder engines - codenamed B38 (petrol) and B37 (diesel). These engines will undoubtedly make their way into MINI.

I kind of like it.

Slightly OT: but can anyone explain to my why MINI still continue to outsource their engines from other manufacturers when BMW already make excellent 4 cylinder engines?

The hatchback does make more sense but this model is more of a luxury car with presence for those who want to see noticed in traffic. I saw the paceman concept a few years ago and the proportions are very attractive. Many will be surprised by how high-end the car looks.
Ι don't want to get noticed. That's why I drive a Volvo :D

Same here. It's pointless. It's a taller Mini, that was a five door thingy at start, and somehow lost 2 doors. The good old Mini hatch makes a ton more sense, but deep inside me I like this one. I guess I have to start visiting a shrink...

Pretty much every car is pointless going by that. And why would a smaller, more cramped car make more sense?

A sedan would also be pointless, as a stationcar is more convenient. Not to speak of coupes, cabrios, roadsters and whatever else exists.

Haha, fortunately it's not up to you to decide that, and the car will sell like hotcakes.
And also, 8 out of 10 will love the looks, as you already see here in this thread.

Why is that? The extra headroom and larger cabin will please those who find a regular 3d mini to be on the small side of the scale.

I'm not a Mini fan but this is one hot car, the most attractive one in the line-up. This will be a blockbuster like the Range Rover Evoque. Some quality designs British manufacturers are pushing out lately.
