Just a couple of months ago, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the GLA, a compact SUV sitting on the new A-Class platform. Undeniably a very good design, it attracted much attention in a segment which has tough competition from the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1. MB couldn’t do only with a great design, though, as they just unveiled the GLA’s hottest version, the GLA 45 AMG, yet in concept form for now.
Leaving the huge stickers found on the doors and windshield aside, the Concept GLA 45 features the typical AMG bumpers, four exhaust tips and black 21 inch rims with 255/35 tyres. The large front splitter in high-gloss black on the AMG front apron, the black flics (air deflectors) with additional flics, together with the large cooling air intakes enhance the GLA 45 AMG’s bold and distinctive design, so that it can match the equally distinctive engine that is found under the hood.
The engine is the same turbocharged 2.0lt 4-cylinder unit that powers the A45 AMG. It’s output of 265 kW/ 360 hp and 450 Nm is sent to all four wheels through AMG’s SpeedShift 7-speed DCT gearbox and the Haldex-based 4-MATIC all wheel drive system. The GLA 45 AMG is EU6 emission standard compliant, while at the same time can achieve a zero to 100 km/h acceleration in under five seconds.
