| Maybach 62 Facelift ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Just a few days ago, we showed spy photos of a next generation Maybach 62 test mule sporting the extended body of an S-Class. And now our spy snappers have spotted a Maybach 62 wearing a mismatched pair of tail lamps on the streets on Munich. Looking more closely, evidence emerges of a very minor facelift. At the rear of the car, particularly the tail amps, we can see that the left side tailamp is normal with its lower reflector extending below the boot lid across the rear body panel. However, on the right side this reflector is filled with a normal painted panel containing a smaller LED light strip just below the main tail amp lens housing. Also, the front grille has fewer vertical slats. Maybach 62 Facelift Spied I have to give it to MB, they aren't giving up on this just yet. If a facelift is to generate some buzz/sales then it needs to be more radical. Then again how much good money do you throw after bad? I wonder if the new Landau will come out before or after this facelift. I'd say after is better. M

| Re: Maybach 62 Facelift Well the 62 has always looked ungainly too me. It suffers from the same problem as the Ferrari 612, it is too damn long. M

| Re: Maybach 62 Facelift Hmmm ....so much for making Maybach a distinctive brand. This will make the rear look even more like an S class. ![]() They seem to be suggesting that the grille with less "vertical slats" will be part of the facelift -- this has been part of what distinguishes the S models from regular Maybachs. BTW, I really liked the copper colour 57S that Luwalira posted in the Maybach pictures thread. http://www.germancarforum.com/253028-post30.html |

I don't get that ....it looks like some Cadillac/Lincoln thing. They also don't say it will replace the 57/62 ...but rather, be added to the range. This could be a very risky move if the US economy goes bad. | |

| Re: Maybach 62 Facelift Well of course they used the S-Class for that chop, but it reminds me of the ODC. It would be the right direction for Mercedes to use the ODC as the next Maybach.

And don't you think it's time to start testing the next model if they were going to continue producing it? Oh, and the facelift is on the way, so it makes sense to me.

| Re: Maybach 62 Facelift I love the 57S especially the white interior with carbon fiber galore. Mercedes should IMO contact the designers at Wally. Mercedes should take all that S-class technology and bake it into a dark futuristic, stealthy looking Wally yatch on wheels. In that way they would offer something very distinctive which would make the Phantom look old and dull. Try to picture the car in your head. Bold and avantgarde styling with exotic materials like carbon fiber(painted CF panels in the interior too), expensive wood and aluminum with blue LEDs here and there. Doors with concealed handles and buttons and screens inside hidden. Such a car would be an instant hit and put the Maybach brand back on the map. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Re: Maybach 62 Facelift If they get rid of that horizontal part thath connects the rear lights it will indeed look even more like the W221. The clear glass rear lights are an interesting choice. |

| Re: Maybach 62 Facelift The clear glass rear lights are awful...awful. The kind of painted character line connecting the lights to the side od the car is interesting though. M aybach, the first car with 3 different body colors to choose... I hope the grill will become MUCH bigger with the facelift... But this car is hopelessly understated, face-lift or not. The clear glass lights look aftermarket here, hope it is not definitive... Mercedes do built a Pullman W221 from what I know, but coachbuilder too.

| Re: Maybach 62 Facelift ^^ I wouldn't expect anything very innovative from them ....the ODC is clearly showing the direction they are going in ....and it does look kind of like a less aggressive Cadillac. ....and lots of Chrysler influence in the Merc design studios 1997 Chrysler Phaeton 4-door convertible Concept ![]() ![]() |
