Wow, that was amazing. You have to be really lazy to let the car pull into a parking lot spot for you....and press all the buttons. I think the were exagerrating a little bit though. I think its more useful for tight parallel parking situations. Seriously though, encouraging the unskilled driver to be even more unskilled...great.

I think this is what the future holds for top-level luxury vehicles - "amenities" that consist of contrived ways for the car to take the place of human intuition. A self-parking system is no more a luxury for me than an automatic door closer an automated restaurant finder.

It's new technology, I don't think it's fair to criticise it so quickly. The limitations of the system, I reckon, is to have perfectly spaced parking spaces so it can do its thing... It has not reached the point where it can park into any parking space, yet.

It's a very interesting feature and one that i have seen work (there's another video around the net) but in all honesty i don't need this feature, i'll happily park the car myself.

Just yesterday, I parked the E320 inbetween two cars and it was pretty tight. All I used was Parktronic, my side mirrors and my spacial intelligence.

Wow, some of the people in that thread are rediculous. If you guys have time to kill and need a laugh, go read that thread. There are some good points brought up though, but then other people just resort to personal attacks as a response to it.

For now we probably don't need this technology, but I'm thinking once more R&D goes into this, most cars will have this feature to use someday. Just, make sure 2 people don't do it at the same time near each other, or 3 people in a tight parking lot...otherwise...

But that is sooooo old tech...

Isn't this system meant for parallel parking only, so for cases when the parking space is parallel with the car and not perpendicular to it?
The car only has sensors in front and behind, not on its doors!

Doesn't matter whether the technology came out last week or last century. It's not the age that's the problem, it's the very concept in itself.

There's some truth in that - if I was a luxury car driver, I wouldn't see a parking feature being in my "must-have" list.

Autospies is full of fanboys, not entusiasts. An enthusiast to me is someone who respects other brands. A fanboy is someone who posts on Autospies and always promotes his brands while bashing others.

Autospies = fanboy heaven. Funny to read those posts to. Some of the Lexus fanboys are hilarious. Sadly, there are tons of German fanboys on that site as well.

You bet. We have something called maturity and respect on these boards.

Those two ideals are non-existant on Autospies.
