Same here. The Lexus is a better car than the Merc imo.

Audi just got a new 2.0 lt diesel engine with 170 hp. With all that power it wouldn't be fair for the other three cars. j/k

There is a difference between "newer" and "better". I would still take C class instead of Lexus.

The IS looks great. Go see it in real life, I genuinely think it is a much more composed & aggressive design than the 3er and C-Class.

The shoulder line draws thick through to the boot, and its stance from sideways is pleasing. Not to mention those shutlines literally makes the car's sides look like slabs of aerodynamically-flat sheet metal. The interior is nothing to shout about, though.

I think the IS deserves at least a second place. But this comparo concerns only diesels and as far as I know, Lexus diesels suck.

Where did I say newer???

I've driven the Lexus IS220d quite extensively, and it's better than the C diesel, which I had last vacation via Hertz.

For me a Lexus will never be better than C class (or A4 or 3 series) for the same reasons that a Toyota Avensis will never be better than a Passat.

for sure im with yannis..would never take the lexus over any of the 3 germans..no matter how old..

Disregarding Yannis' stupid bashing of Lexus cars, I personally think the IS is a great car, and much better than what this result from Autobild shows. While not exactly a class leader in specific categories, its constistency that makes this car stand out from the pack. Now, I don't have any experience with the 220D model, as it's not sold here in Australia, due to a lack of demand, but I have been in an IS250 and I must say, it is brilliant! From an all-round perspective, the Lexus IS rates higher than the C-Class and, dare I say, the 3 Series for me. It's the perfect balance of looks, quality, power and handling.

Now, if only the IS came as a hybrid with the 2.5L V6...

Thank you Top Secret for saying what was running through my mind as well. Such bling brand-bias is, as Top Secret said, very shallow-minded. It's fine to say you'll never consider a Lexus, I can understand that, but saying a Lexus will never be better than a Benz of Beemer, that's hopeless.

IS is nowhere near the German cars. In fact from the reviews i have seen noone said the opposite.

Yes, we are all German car fans... but that doesn't mean being a Lexus/Toyota hater.

It's one thing to love and favour a brand, but it's a low thing to act childish and make immature comments about another brand.

All that proves is that they make comments just as narrow-minded as yours.

When Lexus makes cars as good as the German ones i will be the first to admit it but we are a long way from that. It's not easy for a immitation to be better than the original.

You want to tell me that all cars are the same and whoever doesn't admit that is narrow-minded? If i start saying that Kia Magentis is as good as Lexus IS will you believe me? If you won't then you will be narrow minded too?

That's the thing though; Lexus does make better cars than the Germans. You only need to look at the legendary LS400. That made a huge impact, especially in the US, and sent every German manufacturer into panic mode.

this is a german carmag, foregin cars never win a compariosn in Autobild or AMS. The german carmags are superbaised and the Lexus need more credit than it gets. If you like german cars and want germancars to win, go read a germancarmag.

Every coin has two sides so i can say the exact same thing for you guys. I know exactly what Lexus stands for but i have a feeling that you don't.

Last year a survey was made in several European countries regarding auto manufacturer's brand image and public awareness. Mercedes was rated first , BMW second , Audi third , Volvo fourth and VW fifth.

As for Lexus i don't even remember which spot they got but it was surely behind VW. As you can see many people share the same opinion with me about Lexus and i can't see that changing soon. I know that they are selling very well in other parts of the world and they are currently spending billions in advertising and "public relations" in order to enter the European market but as far as i 'm concerned they are not in my options for the next few decades.

I think Lexus has a good image in America, but in europe, and most certainly the UK, Lexus is though of a good product without a proper badge!

Anyone who's into posing would never buy a Lexus, Alan Partridge had one!
