| Re: King Of Convertible Elegance Yeah, I would never actually buy a convertible anyway, and probably never a sports car or coupe, either. I don't think I could spare the expense in the face of the lack of practicality. That said, I still think the SL is the best convertible out there. Drop dead gorgeous looks, and that hardtop, mmm, hard to beat. The thing looks fast just sitting there. I don't have any sporting pretensions, but I think that the SL should have plenty of ability to cover anything that I could come across in everyday driving. However, since Youngwarrior mentioned the Aston.. that would probably be the only car that could unseat the Merc. Either a Vantage or a DB9! A Porsche 911 would probably be stretching the 'elegance' aspect of the thread, and similarly, the Ferrari F430 wouldn't quite fit, and I don't think there are any other current Ferrari convertibles. I don't think the Gallardo or Murci quite count as elegant. The Maserati might just fit.. |

Is it too late to make it a poll with the three cars listed? It might be too late with all the responces now.

| Re: King Of Convertible Elegance If we're talking about aesthetics here, the SL takes the crown. The Bentley doesn't look particularly beautiful, it's actually just showy and... That's about it. The 6 Series' front lights can't be called beautiful for sure.

| Re: King Of Convertible Elegance The Bentley just looks...well.... The 6-Series is gorgeous until you look at the booty. It looks awful next to the SL. M

| Re: King Of Convertible Elegance The SL is such a beautiful car and also probably is bought by the widest demographic of the three cars - it never looks "wrong" or out of place when parked next to vehicles much more expensive that itself .......having said that, it's hardly the most egalitarian mode of transport in the world. The SL may be the the favourite shopping cart of well-heeled fashion-victims everywhere but it is more than just a dream car for lottery-winning hairdressers, the SL is a truly excellent automobile - it is a model that has long been recognized as the pinnacle of German technical ingenuity and sophistication. |

| Re: King Of Convertible Elegance How easily we forget, however better performer the 997 Cab may be when compared to the other cars, it's very much in the same class given it's price, configuration, and power. With that said, had the 997 Cab been included I would have, of course, chosen that car. |

| Re: King Of Convertible Elegance Personally I would never buy a 911 cab since I think that the coupe is better looking and that it would feel so wrong to own a 911 cab. With the roof cut off the car loses some of it's 911-ness. |

Good thought, I agree. It reminds me of the VW Bug in cab form, that aside. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() Simply beautiful! one of the best droptops of our time.

| Re: King Of Convertible Elegance i picked 650i but this is the only case where i think the mercedes is close to its bmw rival...the sl is just some car...its beutiful...powerful...and elegant...but the 6er is just special And differnt...the decision came down to being a bmw fan really... i dont like the sl's brake feel however

| Re: King Of Convertible Elegance This is a bit of a close one between the SL and the 6er. The Bentley, .. well, i've slowly grown to accpe the coupe, but the convertible just is not my thing at all. Between the 6er Convertible and the SL, I have to say I've liked the 6er from day one. Not put off by the boot or the front lights or anything for that matter. At the same time though, I do think the SL is appealing, although I don't like it as much as I do in AMG guise. When comparing the SL550 with the 6er, the 6er is my pick, but had the poll included the SL55, then it would definately be the SL55. So, in this poll, my vote goes to the 6er. Absolutely gorgeous...!! ![]() ![]() ![]()
