Autobild and 4 drivers drove these around Nordschleife. They didnt decide a winner, just drove them around the track.

M6 driver - Prinz Leopold von Bayern
CGT driver - Walter Röhrl
CLK-DTM driver - Klaus Ludwig
Bentley driver - Tom Kristensen
Gallardo driver - (doesn't say)

Bentley Continental GT - weight 2385 kg - 166,000 euro
Time: 8:40,30 min
BMW M6 - weight 1755 kg - speedlimiter - 108,500 euro
Time: 8:07,76 min
Lambroghini Gallardo SE - weight 1560 kg - 173,420 euro
Time: 7:56,65 min
Mercedes CLK DTM AMG - weight 1690 kg - tires Semi Slicks - 236,060 euro
Time: 7:56,50 min
(Note: although the car used semi-slicks, the tires had trouble with grip. Safety system cant be switched off 100% and if it was possible the time could be improved.)
Porsche Carrera GT - weight 1495 kg - 452,400 euro
Time: 7:39,49 min

Isn't Klaus Mercedes official tester of their performance vehicles? He was the guy who drove the SLR around the Nurburgring in 7:40. If anyone knows Mercedes cars it should be him, and with him not improving on SportAutos time I must say I'm a bit dissapointed.

Amazing drivers they used. Ludwig must be ex DTM Mercedes driver, Rohrl is Porsche's head tester, Kristiensen is Audi's DTM star and i have heard of that von Bayern before but i can't remember where.

I think they were all testdrivers from each company. Walther did 7.28 min with a CGT, here he is 10 sec slower. Maybe they all had a bad day

I love that Gallardo. I can't wait until the Spyder version comes out in 1/24th scale so I can build one and add it to my collection.

Gallardo in my eyes is the real winner there.

CGT is way out of range, but nontheless a very good post!

ohh and i think that is the only car that might gain value and not loose ( maybe the CGT will gain too after some years)..

The M6 tested had a speed limiter. So that would cut into it's time since they are a number of places on the track where the M6 could go a lot faster if it didn't have the limiter. I'd like to see BMW deactivate the limiter for tests like these so that we can see how fast the car could go.

Wow really disapointed with the ESP incident I'm sure another few good secounds can be knocked off there. Other than that I feel the M6 should be closer to the Gallardo.

I think Walter Röhrl is one of the best drivers ever, he's amazing...

are you kidding me? Noone have ever said that M6 is doing below 8 min. Check out Sportauto, Gallardo is even faster than Ferrari F430 around Nordschleife so asking the M6 to beat a Gallardo is like asking Jessica Alba for a date

Prinz Leopold is just that- the Prince of Bavaria. He has raced for a long time. I remember many years ago he drove a M1 in Munich's colors.
It looks like Walter Rohrl is driving the Gallardo in the pic posted- look at the Mobil 1 logo on the leg of the driver's suit.

(A shame that one cannot fully turn off the ESP system, which costs precious track time. Despite this, the 1.7 ton Mercedes manages a 7:56,50 time, faster than the lighter Gallardo.)

CLK-DTM is offered with Semi slicks but you cant turn off the ESP 100%. Its a shame and on all sportcars this should be possible.

CGT - Klaus Ludwig exits the car and exclaims: "This is the first streetcar which really scared me. Twice, I nearly lost control. It's that unbelieveable.")

but why isnt it standard like all other sportcars

I remember sportauto complained on the same thing for SLK55. On the M6 (and other bimmers) you can turn it off or on whenever you want to.

There has been alot of complaining about MB cars and their ESP system. The system bites in even if turned off and doesn't let you explore the car's limits.

for all ordinary MB´s i think its fine..
but for AMG modells or especially like this DTM.. it should be possible to turn off i agree..

A friend of mine had a SL65 (he since traded it in on a 997 Carrera S cabriolet) and the ESP, even "off", killed the driving experience. It was constantly intervening when trying to drive the car the way it should be driven!
