Indeed a good track performer

Does anybody know sales numbers of the Z06 and if GM is making money with it?

Since the 997TT beats the Carrera GT on the Weissach test track I'll expect (want to see) a 997TT time below 1.10,8 for HHR.

In any case, it wont affect the 997TT sales.

Re: Sportauto impressed by Corvette Z06

That is a very good time and to be honest I not worried at all that the 997TT wont' be able to beat that. On a dry track the 997TT will probably go around the track in less than 1min and 10 seconds.

I dont think it will do so, the new GT3 has a bigger chance to achieve it..below 1.10 on Hockenheim isnt easy at all. Maybe 1.11 but not below 1.10.

Im still waiting for sportautos supertest with these two beasts.

Re: Sportauto impressed by Corvette Z06

Yeah somewhere in the 1min 10 second range might be more realistic. What makes me beleive that the 997TT will go around the track that fast is because of the improved handling, the new four wheel drive system and the insane acceleration. It will be very interesting to see how much much slower it is than the CGT. Hopfeully the cars will be tested next month when it's a bit warmer here in europe.

If it gets made it will 100 more horsepower and weigh less than the current Z06. Talk about a screamer.

Re: Sportauto impressed by Corvette Z06

This result is once again fishy. How can a car with 100hp over its C6 counterpart post a time that is 3 secs better and show up several supercars when on paper there is nothing special about it unless the press car had some kind of special suspension set-up.

Re: Sportauto impressed by Corvette Z06

Youngblood, I'm not sure if you've been keeping up with the news, but making out that the Z06 is nothing more than a Corvette C6 with another 100hp couldn't be further from the truth.

The engine's not remotely the same, and there have been numerous other modifications that make it more like the C6-R race car than the normal C6. It certainly does have a "special suspension setup" - but that'd just be the standard Z06 setup compared to the normal Corvette C6. I'll try to find an article that can more eloquently express just how much difference there actually is.

I don't think this is what you were looking for Snake but it gives a good amount of detail about what makes the Z06 tick.

Re: Sportauto impressed by Corvette Z06

Car and driver figures are debatable as those figures put it above the likes of the Enzo ferrari, CGT and several other cars that are alot faster on paper.

I know the marketing thatw as put out about the C6 Z06 being a road going version of the C6-R but I dont buy it.

The only thing those two cars share is the engine block.
The Z06 also has a simple suspension setup (spring leaves) so I cant understand how its so much faster. Once sport auto take it around the nurb and if it still posts a super hot time I will then fully acknowledge the cars greatness.

Re: Sportauto impressed by Corvette Z06

^I think you mean "leaf springs". leaf springs really make sence in this car because not only are they light and dependable, but also (when tuned right) can be great for cornering as well even compared to the more conventional Double-wishbone suspension.

Sportauto test 3-4 cars in every issue. They tested a lot of cars on the track so the list would be huge. It would take me too much time to create such a list.
