Im going wild and claim that Golf 1.4 TDi (170hp, turbo/supercharger) is a better buy than GTI.

Re: Auto Zeitung - BMW 123d vs. Volkswagen Golf GTi

It's TSI, turbocharged-supercharged-injection.

This was first used in the Lancia Delta S4 Group B rally car, and had a power output of ~440 hp default and could go to over 600 hp if necessary.

I wonder if you'd chip the TSI.

Twin charging has almost unlimited potential,I agree..
That Lancia turned rally world upside down,as I recall..and Ford RS 200 also..These monsters were reason to shut down group B,I think .

Yes twin-charging + injection is fantastic, but such a chiped TSI should be put onto the AWD R36 as just the front wheels would not deal with such power/torque.

The Lancia S4 was alongside the Peugeot "205" T16 Evo2 the ultimate Group B car. The RS200 wasn't really a contender, but the accident the RS200 was involved in Portugal killing spectators and the death of Lancia driver Toivonen led to the death of Group B rally. As if 600 hp were not enough Audi was planing/testing a 1000 hp monster.
That really was too much.

Re: Auto Zeitung - BMW 123d vs. Volkswagen Golf GTi

I wonder if we'll ever see a twincharger engine in the U.S. Seems like a natural fit to me. Are there plans to use this concept on something larger the 4-cylinders?

My next car will most likely have the I6 3.0 TT engine, and I went to the dealership to inform myself about tuning it etc.....they weren't happy at all to keep it short. All warranties will be lost when something breaks etc. etc.

Now I am confused and scared. A little help would a very welcome.

Aftermarket tuning of turbocharged cars is only for hard-core street dicers in my opinion. Wanna win that traffic light drag, sure man, boost your STI to the moon but be prepared to fork out the necessary dosh when you pop a con-rod through the block. We see it all the time... fiddle fiddle faf with the ECU settings; turn the boost up and pour more fuel in. And then - bang.

Klier, if you want the improved performance from an aftermarket enhancement and still get the benefit of warranteed peace of mind then the only rational and (very) classy option to go for on the I6 turbo'd engine is a conversion from Alpina.
