All in all, this good news, dont you agree ILC32?
So, there was a natural explanation to this after all. Good work BMW.

Yes, I'm very pleased about this news! Hopefully this option will be on the Supertest car!

I have a even better explanation for ya, put those same times on the R8 and the M3 would get MURDERED my friend! Audi doesn't need to offer such tires to squeeze out top figures!

well, R8 is using R-tires as well so I doubt the R8 would do much better. and Audi doenst need it? haha, then why did the RS4 need it in the Sportauto supertest?

The RS4 is no R8 my friend! Your the tire zar Just_Me, you might not want to admit it but you know such tires on the R8 would shave a good deal off all it's times.

Well, there IS an R8 Test on P Zero Corsa tires (SportAuto 6/07). Some numbers:

0-100/-200 kph: 4.7s/16.2s

18m slalom: 68.6km/h

brake distance: 35.2m/33.3m

Best regards, south

South we both know a competitive set is needed in order to determine what could or couldn't be achieved at that testing facility.

I can throw 0-100km time of 3.9sec out for the R8 as well as other figures because it's been achieved. But what would it matter if there weren't other cars being tested at the time? BMW claimes the E92 M3 needs 4.8sec to reach 100km from a stand still, but it might do it in 4.1 under the same conditions...

Sorry, but I highly doubt that under the same conditions. Now, it might be possible to do it in 4.1 seconds under different (aka better) ones.

Either way, M3 > R8

Yes, we know that it's not fully comparable unless both cars are tested at the same time. All I wanted to say is that your statement, "an R8 on race tires will murderer the M3", is indefensible. Agree?

Agreed! The word murder to you could mean the R8 would need to beat the M3 by 3 or 4 seconds, where to me it needs to only beat it by 1.5seconds

the R8s lap times have been very impressive on many laps....better than 911 GT3's and turbos on some occasions...
M3 is not better than the R8

Re: Autozeitung: R8 vs M3 vs C6

Audi R8

0-100km/h: 4.4s
0-160km/h:10.3s
0-200km/h:15.2s
Weight: 1661kg(full tank)
Track time: 1.39,8min

BMW M3

0-100km/h: 4.8s
0-160km/h:10.3s
0-200km/h:15.2s
Weight: 1626kg
Track Time: 1.40,1min

Vette C06

0-100km/h: 4.8s
0-160km/h:10.1s
0-200km/h:15.6s
Weight: 1.44,2min

Even though the the M3 had and advantage with the PILOT CUP foot where, it's lap time is very impressive!

M3....The over achiever!

There is always something, isnt it?

Both the Audi and the BMW was tested with their OEM R-tires and the outcome was very even... So, none of the cars was handicaped by their tires in this comparison. Its really nice to see that the M3 can perform this well, even putting pressure on the R8 around the track.

Its worth to notice that if BMW supplies the same specification Cup tires as on the GT3 these tires are made to have good allround qualities.

BTW, this is the first test of the M3 with the driver package, right?

No advantage, just not crippled by having non-R tires this time
