The R8, is finally the car Audi needed to convince America to take the brand seriously as one of the Big Boys. I just can't wait for the new A8.
Audi is definitely on the fast lane! Especially here in germany, my personal feeling is, that every second car is an Audi - when I think back (10 years or so) Audi build boring cars for extremely individual persons...

Have you seen the car IRL?
When I saw the R8 on photos I was like "Oh my god,the car looks weird" but after my visit to an Audi dealer I saw the car IRL, I even had the chance to sit in the car. I'm no longer having anything against the R8, fine vechicle and I would pick it over a 997S.

I thought so. I got a dejavu feeling when I read the verdict for all three cars.

Every publication out there mind you is going bananas for the R8. Heck even EVO rates it above the C4S, Prodrive Vantage and M6. Good car it seems, very very good car!

Who cares ?!

Really Martin

1. first it doesn't have a boxer
2. second it doesn't have the engine placed in a weird position
3. third it's weird looking
4. doesn't have traditional AWD

Come on Marinbo how many flaws can you find ?!

We get it, you like you cars in a certain rally, off road, conservative type of way.

This is the impression I'm expecting to get when I see one.

Yes I have seen it. At Auto Africa as can be seen below:

Still doesn't light my fire, float my boat, blow my hair back, smoke my rubber, ring my bell or whatever other inane metaphor that may come to mind.

The R8, I acknowledge, is an amazing car and hell yes, I'd love to own and drive one. But I'll be the first to say that it's not a classic beauty in the truest sense of the sports car idiom. People are entitled to their opinion - particularly if it's an informed one.

Actually it's like this...

I love cars like the Gallardo, F430 and Pagani Zonda for the exquisite mid-engined creations that they are.

I will be the first to say that one of my all-time favourite hypercars, the Carrera GT, isn't nearly a paragon of aesthetic beauty. That doesn't change how I feel about it.

As much as I lament the looks on a subjective level of the R8, I still have a fine and deeply informed appreciation for the car and it's ability.

Classic beauty: Lasts very long after a few decades become and more beautiful

Non-classic beauty: Hot as hell for a few years, after that people get bored with it to finally hate or laught at it.

I have to say I have sympathy with you about this Martin. I have not seen one yet but I am not enamored by its looks -- the 911 is what "mows my lawn"

It was teasing, joking.

Just forgot the smilies.

I also like this a sport car. Street legal Lancia Delta S4. Moreso than the 959.

BTW, like the CGT, Zonda F, but the McLaren F1 comes first, actually right now its the T1 that comes first.

CGT, nice car, but not really close enough to the cigar for me.
For the F1 part, guilty and proud of it.

So are we cool.

As an example; The McLaren F1.

Epic styling that melds cohesive proportion with beautiful flowing lines. Not a single line or styling element looks out of place in the mid-engined supercar that's yet to be surpassed in the looks department.

Oh dear, I'm sorry I mis-interpreted your post as some form of irritation with me. You need to be a little less subtle when you're poking fun dude!

We're cool - I will amend my nasty post accordingly.

j/k

But seriously I don't consider the w221 to be a classic beauty, despite the fast that I love it. It isn't original enough, it is designed to suit the taste of people from the current era of automotive design.
