Thumbs up [scans] AMS: M5 Touring vs. E 63 T AMG

The test everyone wait for...

The E 63 T wins this test.

Best combination, an estate car with the perfomance of an high performance car and the comfort of a Mercedes.

M5 Touring:

Also as Touring this car is an absolutely sports car. But the comfort isn't that good and the boot is conspicuously smaller...

Re: AMS: M5 Touring vs. E 63 T AMG

offtopic but I have done statistics for AMS to see how many times a carbrand win based on tests published on GCZ. In battles between BMW and MB, MB has won 6 times and BMW 0 times. So , again, the test winner was expected.

Any more details regarding this test?

Re: AMS: M5 Touring vs. E 63 T AMG

Intresting that AMS think the frontseats in the M5 is more comfortable than E63, same score for both on the backseats, suspension stiffer though on the M5 but that is expected.

Both cars very close in acceleration.

Re: AMS: M5 Touring vs. E 63 T AMG

Nice, I think I'd take the Mercedes as well... An M5 in Touring form just doesn't seem right IMO.

BTW, will BMW ever consider fitting its M cars with an auto box? Or at least something like that, before ZSG comes? I know this might flare up some M purists' feelings but seeing the situation from the perspective of a E63 T buyer, I wouldn't take the M5 because of SMG.

So, James, you'd like to have an ordinary 6spd auto tranny in M5?

thank God its not happening. The SMG is a blast to use, if you know how-to.
But ZSG will be replacing SMG, smoother in automatic mode.
BMW have their customers and wont change tradition just to gain customer from AMG.

Re: AMS: M5 Touring vs. E 63 T AMG

think about it.

AMGs are usully the faster than M in straightline but every test between M5 and E63 they are very very close in acceleration.
Do you guys think it will be this close between M3 V8 and C63?

Well, I guess it depends on the conditions... For a place like Singapore with bad traffic, limited road space and low speed limits, I'd rather live with an auto... You know, after being a passenger in the Maser for so long, I'm convinced that clutchless manuals are more suited for the track. Sure, if you know how to use it, it'll be smooth, but for a drive home in crawling traffic, I'd want none of that accurate shifting nonsense.

Good to know that ZSG will be replacing SMG... And I guess you're right, each car appeals to a very particular customer. That's why in this case, I'd go for Mercedes and you'll go for M5 T.

I would say, that Mercedes wins most of the tests in AMS...

...even when AMS would test a W126 against a BMW E65/66, the Mercedes would win - joke...

...no doubt, Mercedes often wins - but you should know that the publisher has it's location in Stuttgart.

In comparisons bmw/mb, MB has won 4 tests and BMW 2 tests out of 6.
In comparisons between Audi/bmw/mb, MB has won 6 tests and BMW 3 tests and Audi has won 3 tests out of 12.

So its not as obvious as AMS but still more winnings for MB than the other two germans.

Yep, I agree.. the M5 kinda does look weird and boxy as well. Something about it just doesn`t cut it for me in a lot of ways. MB really knows how to kick the wagon affair at just right imo. Anyway glad to see the E63 win.

Re: AMS: M5 Touring vs. E 63 T AMG

Nice monster wagons, no doubt, I'll go with my beloved Bimmer ...!

In fact there are more duels between Audi/bmw/mb from AMS and Autobild than a foreign carmag.

Hmm, talking about the RS6 makes me so sleepy. That car is waaaaaaaay too late to the party. When it arrives, Mercedes will be testing the next gen E-class AMG model, while BMW is on it's way to sell the 40,000th V10 engine.

Back to this test, I think both cars are utterly amazing. The E AMG estate is my favorite Benz, and the M5 Touring is just too awesome to describe with it's updated interior and exterior......and who the hell cars about a slightly bigger boot in the Benz??? Not me, that's for sure.
I'd take the drivers car, but would not at all be disappointed with the E63 estate (not the sedan, since that car remains a taxi)

Well, here's a nice 535d for you.
But seriously, I do get what you mean, even though for me using these cars as taxis does not pose an image problem.

I'm happy that the E63 is scoring these victories against the M5, the fast sedan game was getting rather boring with the M5 taking all the glory.

Re: AMS: M5 Touring vs. E 63 T AMG

Wow, that's a taxidriver with great taste, lol.

Mike, I don't know about Finland, but in Holland at least 80% of ALL taxis are E-klasse. Nobody here buys the E for personal use, unless it's the estate version.
